I am getting tired of trying different skins and having various glue issues. I am also impressed by the nearly universal positive reviews for Colltex skins, and also feel the Swiss are pretty good at making things which are "the best".
Anyone know a source for Colltex skins in the US? I am looking for the Mohair/Nylon mix, wide, of course...

There was a sale last month, Coltex for $150.

They are wholesale, but I'd try contacting WoodyD on TAY, you may get lucky. He's works for Mountain Equipment's US office: 10090 Main Street, Peshastin, WA, 98847

Cheers
Ivo

Hey Ivo, thanks for the info, but at the risk of seeming out of touch, what is "TAY"?

4FRNT sells the Colltex mohair/nylon skins. We have some in the shop, and they are nice, really nice....easy to put on, take off, and super-pliable. Night and day compared to my Voile skins. The boss has been using them, and he thinks they're the tits. I am ordering myself a pair next week and converting them for splitboard use. They are available in 130 width and 185 or 195 length. If you are interested, I can add an extra pair to the order.

karkis has some of those skins. When I asked him about it he said he like the skins but just don't put them glue to glue. You need to roll them or use the skin saver. I guess they stick too good to each other. Maybe he'll chime in?

Yes, I have heard that they cannot be folded glue to glue, especially on wide skins. OK, with me, I can handle using the cheat sheets with them.

Permnation, I am looking for the 140 width Mohair/Synthetic mix.

I am tired of dealing with glue getting on the base of my board when the skins get 20 days or so in them. Yes, I store and apply cold, to a cold base, and I wax/scrape/ and brush often. Of all the reviews I have read all over the Internet, Colltex seems to have the most consistently great reviews. They are swiss after all, and in my experience, the Swiss seem to make products which are always the "best" or they do not make them at all.

i roll em all day and stick em to the sheets to dry at night, works great
love em
not quite az durable as ascensions but I'm sure they'll last some years
in Canada they're now available at MEC, they'd potentially ship em to the US but you can probably get em cheaper from a US source

Yeah Mark, MEC has what I want, but they ship via a service where there are unspecified charges for brokerage/customs, and my experience is that these kind of undisclosed charges can get very high, not willing to risk it. I do not blame MEC for this, the money would go to the carrier.

Thanks for the help everyone. Due to the expense and difficulty getting Colltex skins, I decided to go with Black Diamond Glidelite STS (mohair/nylon). The folks at BD were nice enough to throw in another pair of the STS tail connectors (free of charge) so I could set them up to fit on a splitboard.
Kind makes me think there might be a business oppurtunity for me buying 140 mm Colltex skin material in bulk, and setting it up for splitters with BD tip and tails, and maybe the Spark tail clip...

Barrows, I like your idea. Keep me informed. BTW, the 4frnt skins turned out to be made by High Trail. They are similar to Geckos being glueless. Thought I had done my research on the 4frnts, sorry to mislead.
