Can't find a good helmet thread or at least looks like we haven't had one in a couple years, so starting a new one. I'm interested in your preferences when choosing a new helmet.
If you consider the 3 values, safety, weight and fit, obviously a helmet doing great for all 3 would be ideal. I think that we can all easily agree on that right? But I am a little overwhelmed with the choices out there. I haven't been following helmet tech that much, but I am overdue for a new one (mine is from '98 haha!). So maybe some folks who have can help me out!
What is most important to you?
Safety There are a few interesting improvements out there like MIPS and POC's double shell. These seem to add weight though. Double certification like the Camp Pulse?
Weight Of course I like to save weight wherever I can when I buy new gear. My current helmet is 470g, one I like is 550g. Part of me is thinking whatever it's only 80g, what is that? 2 sips of water? On the other hand I could get one that is 200g lighter (than the 550g), Hmmm? Everything adds up.
Fit - Well that one speaks for itself. Your helmet should fit you nice and well! The Camp Pulse seems to be the perfect helmet for splitting. But it fits me weird.
Is the Smith Maze still considerend the lighest Snowboard helmet out there? Is there a buzz about POC helmets right now? Seems like it! Is it justified? The helmets do seem nice and solid and I almost pulled the trigger on the POC Bug Adjustable.
What helmets under 400g are out there, that people like? Any recommendations, thoughts and votes are appreciated.
This next season Smith might be lighter than anything else out there? But not a big fan of brims.

I think the smith maze is still the lightest helmet out there, you just sacrifice features such as ventilation and fit adjustment. at WWSRA, I saw a helmet Giro is making for 2013/14 that is rated for climbing and snowboarding without the gaper gap that you would get with the camp pulse. I wish I remembered the name of the model, but it felt relatively light and had a decent fit.
