That's how I have my BD Ascensions cut and haven't had any problem. That part of the skin doesn't seem to contribute much to traction and it just extra weight that isn't contributing to getting you up the hill.

certainly sounds like a theme.

i find these skins seriously lacking in glue stickiness right out of the bag. compare a pair of brand new voile skins to these and they are miles apart in stickiness (voile SUPER hard to pull apart and the g3 high traction sparks pull right apart).

i took the g3 spark high tractions out once here in the cascades and if it wasn't for the tail clips i'd have been f'd. they weren't sticking to the board just behind the heels of the boot. doesn't seem like a likely spot for that.

dude at snowboard shop (chick called him split master---yikes considering they didn't even carry splits a few year ago) tried telling me that i didn't scrape my board enough after waxing and that i hosed the skins. bullshiz. grow some hair brodeo before spouting that to me. i got pieces of plastic bag stuck to my old ones and they stick better than these.

i have a pair of the voile (tractors?) that are 7 years old, reglued once, that still hang tough. i shred down skins in jacket regardless of conditions so that wasn't the issue.

You guys are making me re-think picking up the G3s now! I like this idea, although ideally you wouldnt have to worry about doing this in hopes that the company had solved the issue. I'll have to keep this in mind if the girlfriend has issues with hers.

Funny, i have the same thing happening, but for me its on the other side, on the straight portion, but stil in the top corner.
it seems like the skin doesnt fit my prior amf very well and in this location it naturally bulges.
i was thinking of maybe putting a relief cut into the skin.... anyone have advice?

I modified a set of G3 Alpinist ski skins for my split use and I cut the tips off and sewed them back on at an angle. The tip nestles into a neutral position naturally and skin 'drapes' nicely down the ski with no effort needed on my part towards getting it parallel to the straight inside edge. All this means that there are no puckers, bulges, or floppy sections. I think G3 should have done this with all their split skins.

I was using a pair of the G3 Alpinist skins with a Never Summer SL and I was having major issues with snow buildup between the skis and the skins to the point where the skins were just floating around being held on only by the clips. Could the issue potentially have something to do with the board's rocker/camber profile? I was just thinking that when the the tip and tail clips are on tight maybe it is stretching the skin to the point where it is no longer making contact with all points of the board half. Could this be an issue or would this just be attributed to a glue malfunction? Has anyone had problems using skins with certain rocker/camber profiles?

I don't think the camber profile has anything to do with it. I'm on a c2 Jamie Lynn and have screwed around with the tension to no avail. The glue simply does not stick, they must have changed the formula or had a glitch in production. I slapped my old roached G3's on for a tour last week (In deep snow) and had no problem at all. I need to pick up some kits at my local shop today and plan on trying to return them.
Interesting that a frequent touring partner of mine has had zero problems on his rockered Arbor and his HT skins
On a day tour this is nothing more than an annoyance but with extended trips in the future it could be a much more of a serious situation.
BTW, I just emailed G3, has anyone else contacted them?
