I can't seem to find any recent threads on helmet cam suggestions. So who's using what and why? I like the form factor of the newest contour over the GoPro and the quality looks comparable. Please give me your feedback on what your using and the pros and cons.
ill chime in, for me the contour is the better choice, the new gopro3 has a bit higher specs, than the new contour but its size of the contour that matters most to me. personally i couldnt stand to have box sitting on the side of my head. i loved my contour but it did get a little glitchy after me and my buddy strapped it to his puppy and record him jumping in the pool. (obviously it got went, and i didnt use the waterproof housing) it still worked tho and i got it at rei and i realized for me i really dont do that much recording. if when i have videos i dont really show anyone.... so i returned it rei and got my self a badass float tube for fishing
i would first take into consideration how much you really are gonna use it. with the contour2+ it has the gps and generally anytime you travel more than 60 miles (i think thats the number they give) you have to reset the gps, not a big deal but something to remember. i will say tho i loved having my contour for when i'd go out on my road bike. its field of vision is great and picks up the pesky teenagers that act like they are trying to grab you but you didnt quite notice it yourself.
if you have an rei near you, id go that route you can make your choice and be happy, or backcountry.com is another great option.
to be more technical tho, i never had any real issues with the video, on the contour once i figured out how to adjust the aperture lighting wasnt an issue anymore.
