In the words of the late Maxwell Smart..."would you believe" it all fits in a 14L/900cubic inch pack?
I really like my Osprey Switch 14, its big enough but not overkill for daytrips in my region and is small enough to take along on multiday trips with a large pack .
My only complaint is on durability. Its tough but not tough as nails…but then again if it was it would add weight. “Life is a series of tradeoffsâ€Â
BC Rider, you post is a very timely post. i just went and looked at day packs yesterday and i was thinking about the Osprey Atmos 50. i know its large for a day pack but i make you look like a twig as i'm a bit bigger and the smaller atmos didn't fit my shoulders as well. I'll post what i propose for my pack after i get it all together as you have given me some things to think about that might be needed for a full day.

Very detailed BCrider....thank you! Im amazed you can fit all that.
Always in Pack
-Water (100oz. or 70oz. w/ a nalgene)
-1st aid
-Extra layers (Fleece vest, hat, sox, sweater)
-Food for a day and then some
-Headlamp/Batteries
-Swiss army knife/Multi-tool
-Duct tape
-Spare parts/cord/zip-ties
-Goggles (OakleyWisdom)
-Helmet(Pro-Tec)
The rest depends on what/where im gonna be going...
Ive got 3 packs i use....
DaKine Heli Pro(1000cu)-Light Day trips...Glades or low angle terrain where i dont need Avi gear(im a right coaster), crampons, ice axe, or many layers.
DaKine Poacher(2000cu)-Longer Day trips w/ avi gear, belay parka, lotsa food and water, BD crampons, BD-Raven Ice Axe....
Osprey Ceres 50-Medium(3000)-Overnighter bag. Great for day trips from camp cause it compresses down SOOO small.

Hi maelcolm, welcome!
The Atmos packs are designed more for backpacking than they are snowsports activities.
For splitboarding you'll need a pack that will carry your board for times when you won't be able to skin. The Atmos doesn't have a board carry system.
I would take a look at their Exposure 42. It looks really clean and simple. It has a great compression/board carrying system (StraightJacket ) and is panel loading…two things I really like in a pack. It's also lighter than their Switch packs (snowsports line) and has the new custom molded hipbelt.

Damn, I cant believe you can fit all that in that pack. What I find really amazing is it doesnt look any bigger after the shovel is inside. Im gonna study this. Can you fly down to san diego and give me lessons on that? My shit looks like the packs for the mule teams in Bishop. For my 2nd season in the BC I will work on being light. I need that size pack in red. I need a day pack that will work for my medical supplies when Im patrolling and then I need to dump all that out and put my BC gear in it.

BCR, thanks for the tip on the exposure. I was thinking about that one too but i heard that they are going to change the pack design and make it more like the atmos, anyone else heard this? If so it might be worth the wait.
