Just got my first split....and I was wondering how people carry their split crampons.
Do you carry them in your pack? If so, do you wrap them in something to protect your bag?
or
do you attach them to the outside of your bag within easy reach? Do they just bang around or are they secured better?

I wrap mine together (spikes to spikes) with a voile strap, then biner them to the outside of my pack. If they flop too much I run the snowboard carry strap on my pack through one of the openings/holes to cinch them down.

If you have room in your pack though..the voile strap will keep the spikes from cutting your pack up for the most part.

I do about the same; I use two small non climbing carabiners to keep them connected spikes to spikes. I always leave them on the outside of my pack so I have quick access to them. There is nothing worse than trying not to slide down an icy side hill while trying to dig crampons out of the bottom of your pack.

Ski crampons on the back easily reached. In my case im usually gripped on an icy slope when putting them on. (I know some people can attach them "on the fly") But I look for a nice "nook" to stop and take off my pack and skiis and put mr chomps on. Also with the crampons attached to the back with the spikes outward, you have an alternative self arrest by jumping to your back, a move that involves great skill.

I like the simplicity of having them on the pack straps, but that seems like a pain if you have
to switch to boot crampons and have the board on your back.
The other day was my last day of the year and I wrapped up the chomps in a plastic sheet and
put them back in the pack when I switched to boot crampons. However, the snow that I didn't
shake off made everything in my pack a little wet. No big deal though.
