Hi from Slovenia!

i just recently bought a snowboard, which i later realized has a foam core-guess when i figured that out:)

what are the disadvantages of using a foam core snowboard to build a splitboard?
does anybody have any experience?

i haven't found anything regarding this subject on this forum so i would be happy for any kind of info!

thanks!!

Hi Klemen
Welcome to sb.com.
Never split a board myself, but working in retail waayyy back and knowing a little bit about boards, I hate to tell you that you probably got a board with one of the cheapest production methods around. The foam is injected into the shell and most of the stability comes from the shell as far as I know, which might not be enough for a split. Generally for self splitting it is recommended to use a full wood core and seal the wood.
Unfortunately now that you already cut the board you might as well try to use it and see what happens, choose save areas in case of board failure and use it as a lesson!? Let us know how it goes!

What schwalbster said, and my fear would be inserts/screws pulling out.

thanks for the input! the foam itself is quite weak, so i guess the biggest problem will be pulling out the t-nuts:( and im not the smallest/lightest among riders:)
what about the foam core- does it absorb water and weaken, or is it ''waterproof''?

if/when i wreck this board, is it possible to reuse the split kit? i would probably need new t-nuts, but the rest should be ok?
