So these buckles on my blazes have to go. Not really diggin them. I tried to swap out with Burton ratchets but the little hook did not line up with the blaze straps. I appreciate the simplicity and light weight of the straps so I plan on keeping otherwise stock parts. Modding the strap to take a Burton ratchet appears difficult due to the hook being almost to the edge of the strap. Any idea of which other companies ratchets might bolt up and work with the current ladders. Ladders look pretty standard. Hoping if a brand will mount up I may be able to track down some parts locally.

I've swapped out both the original Blaze ratchet buckles and the padded part of the straps with Burton CO2 ratchets and straps, heel and toe buckles on both binders. The reason is the same as yours. The action of the original ratchets was much less than smooth. In fact they are quite sticky to the point of having to wrestle them to undo! I still have the original ladder straps and anchor straps in place.
