This is the board that started it all for me

I used this board last year and rode it in the BC and had a blast. I motored my way up the hills with snowshoes and my board on my back. Not this year!

Below are some picture from splitting and setting up my 160 Lib Tech Mullet. I think this is a 2008 model. Not sure, I got it off of Gear Trader two summers ago. It's set up with the Karakorum kit with Voile dual heel bars. Almost done. Just need to seal up the base from the t-nuts (testing out various methods) and waiting for my Karakorum tip/tail clips.


Used my table saw and jig to cut the board. Forgot to take picture day of cut.


Sealed edges with G-flex epoxy and added a little black acrylic paint. So far so good.


For the board clips I got factory bolts from Voile. They are not a taper head but a flat head screw. I like this much better. No sloppy countersink hole.


Board clips installed. I'll cut the extra lengths of the screw with my cut off wheel later.


Recessing base for t-nuts. The drill press and this nifty bit I got at Harbor Freight work real good.


Sealing up holes with Outdoor Helmsman Spar Urethane.


Insert T-nuts. They are sanded and ready for a base repair. I'm going to test out three different methods. G-Flex epoxy, PL construction adhesive, and the P-tex disks from Voile.

A few notes. I only used two t-nuts and one ski screw for the tour binding. I mounted the heel wires with ski screws. I like the idea of not over doing it. Seems like a good compromise and others have been kind enough to post on the subject and have said they have had good success.

Doing this board has been both a blessing and a curse. At the start of wanting to make a splitboard I planned on just buying the DIY kit (which I did) and using my own bindings on the Voile slider plates. However, the more I looked into the gear and read posts on splitboard.com, the easier it was to justify drill press, special bits, belt sander, g-flex epoxy, Karakorum bindings, Spark R&D bindings (got a set of those too to check out) etc. Then the reality hit with the wife's' question "So how much are you spending?" Oh crap, time to pay it all off. This also generated quit a buzz with my friends and now I've got a few of their boards in the works. Since I'm all setup, why not. I think the pricing is very reasonable when you consider the amount of time and care that goes into making one of these.

I've got years of experiences working in a fabrication/weld/machine shop and have been working at a desk as a mechanical engineer for the last 5 years so I was just looking for a reason to build something. This has been a fun summer and I'm ready to build some boards before the season gets in full swing.

Sweet, another red neck mullet in the backcountry! Think that might be an 07/08 model, magnetraction but no banana? Nearly snagged one of those after my Gnu Altered Genetics never showed up but held out for the next year to try out rocker. Never looked back!
