My teenage son uses a 160 Burton Fish for pow and for backcountry , last year we did some backcountry trips and he used Karhu Meta Ascent skis carrying his Fish ...
I don't think there is a split fish option ... I want to get him a splitty ... what is the closest to the performance of the Fish , maybe the Prior Khyber ?
He is a big guy 6 foot and size 13 Snowboard boots , I was worried that his toes would overhang on the Fish , he uses a Wide board for the ski area , but we did ok last year ... although he still is growing , turns 14 this month ...
About the bigfoot issue... if he's not having problems with the Fish now, then splitting it would only improve the boot clearance issue, since the bindings will be a bit higher off the board.
Thanks JMW for the DIY advice ... my son really loves that Fish .. Sorry if you guys have covered this before but one thing I have always wondered is how much difference having the full metal edge is vs not having the one metal edge on the DIY split boards... harder to get an edge in on firm on climbing ? use the crampon more ?

I used a self ripped 2 edge split for awhile not so much a problem but most of my riding with that split was in pow. If you are on hard pack, icy side hills it can be dicey. edges on the inside while goin' up obviously.
Cool link to splitting a Burton - always wondered if this could be done well.
