Question to all experienced split-er
I was looking a my new salomon relay binding (not for split-board...). They use a metal wire to transmit power from the highback to the base plate (like flow binding i think...).
It's not exactly what you describe, but similar. The highback and heel cup are mounted on the Mountain Plate and I used the toe bale from the Mountain plate to lock into the toe welt for a mountaineering boot.
It was a very lightweight binding and it worked great in powder. In harder snow it was a disaster because the mountaineering boot was way too soft to provide control. I hope to try them again someday with rented La Sportiva Nuptse boots to see if they are any better. (Some people use the Nuptse for snowboarding.) I have a couple other ideas bouncing around, too. Anyway, I don't totally understand your design, but give it a shot and see if it works!
Yeah - I'm getting Sparks as soon as Will stops dicking around in his shop and starts shipping them. But you know I've got's to fiddle. Especially when there's no snow! Maybe we'll eventually get a storm or two so I can put my research on hold for the season.

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/mnTGmbqPBvGpDnmvx3qfdQ This is what I have in mind... A highback with space for the rear lever to lock the heel properly, combine with a metal wire that goes through the highback and attached to the binding plate to transfer power from the highback...
