Website for ABC and Coll-Tex tip clips for climbing skins...Cheap! I was getting frustrated trying to figure out a way to make some tip clips. No need to worry now....

So I ve been riding with my telemark buds and tried to get a heads up on what they use for problems with the skins not sticking and whether or not to drill holes in my board for tail clips or buy coltex rings...

Their solution which i like alot is to use sports tape. The type you use for taping ankles and climbing. Wrap the skins to the ski and when you summit just rip it off. they swear by it and most good first aid sets have it anyways.

medical tape works much better than duct tape, both are still a pain in the ass. Get tail clips if your looking for extra security.

with the cold temps...and my skin glue getting older..i had some problems with my skins this weekend. so, i've been looking into tails.

anyone have experience with these skins? i read some post on some tele message boards about them. but mostly it was just people asking questions....as i am here...i did gather that the glue is likely not the best..but having tails would make up for that, right?

i sent a picture of Jogi's modification of coll tex skins. using the voile tip ring and stretchy coll tex tail ring.

they (climbing skins direct) have 132mm skins at 200 mm length that could be trimmed and the tip/tail hardware could be attached.

here is an email from them that i got yesterday answering some questions of mine. he recommends using their twin tip skins.

I think you are in luck!
Our 132mm skins are actually more like 135mm, and after looking at the
pics in that post, I think our tip stretchers and our tail rings would
work great for you.
You would want to buy 135mm Twin Tip skins, and then you would get two
rubber stretchy things, and two extra rings for the tails. Our trim
directions are written for skis

like the basic idea is the same, just angle the cuts for the fold over
flaps at the tip and tail.
We are currently not offering a riveted set-up like the dude in the
post, but the fold over flaps work fine. If you really got into it,
you could probably find some thin metal, and some rivets at the
hardwarestore.

i basically asked about angling the loops, and how to attach the loops to the skins. just wanted a little more clarity. so, i may give these a go (for $99, and as he said 200cm of length...i should be ok).

here's the email for those interested:

It will take a little thought but it really shouldn't be too
hard to cut the skins so that the rings are really secure. Also the
elastic at the tip is forgiveinga would work even if the angle of the
cut isn't perfect. I think one you start trying it should be no
problem. Plus our skins are 200 cm so you have plenty of material to
practice with if start near one end.
Our rings and streachers are held in place by folding the skin over
and sticking it to itself. If you are concerned about the glue not
holding the rings in place you could sew them together, but I really
don't think this is nessacary.
I think that like you would want the 70mm rings for your snowboard.
Finally we sugest that the elastic streachers go on the tip as they
can snag on things on the tail and pull off much eaiser.

our attantion. I hope you will find having a tail attachment as
useful as I do!
