I'm new here so I thought I'd bring something to the table.
I made some baskets several years ago out of Salsa container lids. I was using some trekking poles with small/medium size baskets which worked ok in Washington. But in the lighter snow, they were sinking more than I wanted.
How to make:
1. Take the lid on a Salsa / Yogurt / whatever kind of container (about a 6" diameter) and cut an X in the center. The ones with a thick ridge around the TOP of the lid will work best because they are more ridgid and form a cup on the snow.
2. Slide the lid onto the tip of the pole so it butts up against the small basket. The top of the lid should face down so that the ridge creates a slight cup.
3. Duct tape it to the small basket using 1" strips. Cover the whole thing in 2 layers of tape and burnish with your fingers to bond the adhesive. The force applied when you plant your pole will push the taped lid against the small basket.
4. Go snowboarding and enjoy your new baskets while you climb effortlessly.
PS. If anyone could tell me the correct way to post a photo, I could post photos of this. Thanks.
