i have friend who used ski screws for his touring brackets and pulled them out on his first climb. i think you put more abuse on the touring brackets than you think, especially if you are skiing them a little/lot.
Yes, the touring bracket sees far more stress than the pucks because of torque. The slider track can act like a long lever! I set up a split kit on an old board for a big 250lb friend. This old (non adjustable puck version) Voile board was swiss cheesed with about 7 different stance angles. I drilled it again for his angles, and mounted the pucks with the stock wood screws and wood glue. No t-nuts on the pucks. He has about 70 hard days on the board, and it's still going strong. I t-nutted his touring brackets because I've seen others pull out numerous times when just screwed and glued. Same goes for the climbing blocks/pads. Voile changed the split kit hardware about a year ago to t-nuts for these items because of tear out.
