I don't know if anyone else is annoyed with this, but I've always found my ABS vario frame way to soft. When using it with my 40-liter Dakine pack it kind of sags together because of the weight.
So, today I realized that the "regular frame" that comes with the DaKine ABS packs actually have a steel-wire frame that fits perfectly into the ABS vario unit, giving it a lot more "stiffness". Here are a few picks from inserting it:
Inserting the steel wire thingy
Fits snugly under the flap where the canister sits
I should probably reinforce the bottom to avoid damage to the fabric
I was just wondering if anyone else have done similar things to their vario packs. I have my yearly canister test coming up so I'll perform the test with the steel frame "mounted", just to make sure it doesn't hinder the inflation of the bladders.
