I came up a method to lock down the heel on a diy split kit board. I'ts not the nicest looking thing and I have not taken it for a road test yet. One of my main reasons for coming up with this is because of the type of boarding I do. I wind up with a lot of run outs at the bottom that I would have an easier time skating out of and locking down the heel would make this much easier. All it really involves in bending a piece of metal, drilling a few holes and inserting a crampon pin to the rear of the binding. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kwmspics/8440344438/in/set-72157632672908743/ I opted to place the bracket under the heel riser so I would not have to drill anymore holes in the board. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kwmspics/8440345630/in/set-72157632672908743/ The bracket is cut so that crampons can still be used in the fixed mode with the heel locked down. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kwmspics/8440341472/in/set-72157632672908743/ The board in ride mode http://www.flickr.com/photos/kwmspics/8440338338/in/set-72157632672908743/ More pictues can be found at http://www.flickr.com/photos/kwmspics/sets/72157632672908743/ Again I know it does not look like the fanciest of modifications but perhaps a few suggestions could make it better or someone with a design and production capabilities could add to it. I will test this out when I get to Vt. in a week or two or down on L.I. should it ever snow here again. Comment, opinions and suggestions are welcome. Sorry for just putting in links but I can't seem to get pictures to post.
thats nice work the one huge issue i would worry about is that your heel is fixed and non releasable... your ACLs should be very concerned. ive seen some heel straps that look more home styles... jerry rigged... and that would fail long before your knees blow! safety third out there!!!
I realize that I can fall even while I am standing still (trust me on this haha). The lockdowns are meant for those flats that have places that skating or side stepping might be in order. I don't think there is anyway to remove all chances of getting hurt no matter what kind of equipment you use.
I believe there is a patent out that involves using a pin mechanism to lock down your heel. That would've been my first choice though because it is an easy design and cheap to make. Good work!

Nice work, that looks slick.
You can click on a flickr image, click "share", go to html/bb code, check on BBcode, pick image size, and copy and paste the address in here and it all shows up at once, for max viewing pleasure.
You might know this, but it took me a long time to figure out with some flickr pics I had.
I need lots of pics in front of me at once!

Thanks for posting the pics Mofoco. I tried and could not figure it out. Zakmills the bracket was made out of metal bands that I had gotten at homedepot. I believe they are hurricane clips and were only about 5 bucks each.
