anyone ever make a 3 peice split where the nose and tails of the skis touch at end of sidecut, with a little peice to fill in the gap between the two skis?
not like this, viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5662 -the other way with fatter skis and a tiny middle peice that would be 100cms or so long

Sounds like a job for Jiggy the Jig Saw. Oh, what if the center piece (or pieces ) used the Karakorum hinges to lock together? Hmmmmm. Then you could break the center down, and pack it away more easily than that whales fin in the other post. I think the two piece option may be the way though.

So CB, the point would be to have narrower skis underfoot in split mode so you could edge better and so the third/center piece that you'd have to pack would be shorter, is that what you are thinking?
I like the idea of less deck to have snow globbed on to and less skins with 3-piecers.
Or With Hoglord's approach, make the center piece full width, cut it in half, use a 1/8" thick chunk of prelaminated carbon fiber plate permanently fixed to one half of the centerpiece and attach with wingnuts or something to the other half of the centerpiece. even 3/32" carbon fiber plate is pretty impressively strong at 1 or 2 inches of width.
im thinking more for a split that could ski better as skis. for sections of rolling terrain, depproaches, and goofing around skiing.
i think im gonna get a custom made this fall with ski sidecuts, and fanagle a way to get a dynafit toe and heel in there. more of a set of skis that can be a snowboard rather than a snowboard that can be skis.

Love it. I love snowboarding but skiing is pretty damn fun too.

I've thought about the same thing and would really like to find a way to fit full Dynafit binding between my snowboard bindings for next winter. It shouldn't be too hard since I ride a really wide stance compared to most people here, ~23.75".

Someone I think has done that on this forum. I ride almost 24" and have thought the same thing.
What we "need" is the dynafit binding system that itself moves from touring mode to ride mode.

Great plan! Keep us posted if you have some made. Ps I think I'll use your idea of cutting fish scales with a chisel. I did a test and cut some perfect for me. Thanks.

I'd be tempted to mount the toe and heel pieces of the Dynafit binding onto a plate that mounts to the standard touring mounting hardware with some sort of quick release. I'll have to play with that to find a way to make them on and off quickly and without much weight penalty. Then I can ditch the stuff between the bindings for snowboarding and use basic plates for riding. There is no way that I want to snowboard in a releasable binding!
