Maybe they will be strong enough in the "pull direction", but isnt one of the key features of the voile and kk hooks that they overlap the two board halves so the two skis dont flap up and down? I have not seen a kk clip in real life though...
I give try, I am TIG welding stainless steel every day in my workshop so I'll order the SS ones and try to make a bracket for them witch hold bought parts and avoid folding.

sure, give it a try! The Karakorams are not the ones who invented these clips. They just added about 40 dollars to the price! Still it's best if they overlapped like the kk or any other hook system.
