Okay, i have a brtn 98 supermodel 174 cm deck. I am definitely interested in splitting this deck. I am in processes of laying out a swallow tail pattern on it now! I want this deck for low angle slopes , high avalanche danger days..shelter in trees ect... now i have ridden it in waist deep particulate. Aka...powder on this board not easy to turn...more for flashing the line, top to bottom! I have a brtn fish, also a option kev sansloan pin-tail. Both decks are similar, but are not like my ancient winterstick sallow tail w bungee binders ! Witch is now a decoration in my home! Do you think shortening tail and v-tail will make it easier to turn ? Or just v-tail will just do?! Im 5'9'' 175 lbs. I strong but wanna keep enery for laps skinning up!
I like to put the tail of the board against my stomach to help separate the skins. A swallow would be painfull for that. Sorry I have no swallow turning input.
Cutting a swallow won't really change hardpack handling, but the difference in powder will be huge. The bigger the swallow cut the more pronounced the swallow benefits will be. You could take some length off the tail too, just wouldn't go past the effective edge.

lilnicky Id start with a smaller swallow cut, this allows you the option to keep cutting. Just be mindful where you put the rear ying yang hooks. Make them more biased toward the bindings. If you mount them too far back this will limit you. I would also leave a little tail kick. Good luck
