The rod through the touring bracket corrects mostly the scissor effect and the lateral stiffness than a pulling apart effect which bends the brackets with much less force. Voile brackets will bend a little if forced too, so don't tighten that rod too much. I'll have a lighter weight Triad version of one of these my self soon as well through a prototype touring bracket in the next week or two. The furniture mover materail is teflon. Usually they come in too thick a size, so modification will be required. Nothing a file or mill can't take care of easily.
