I drilled a hole in very thin sheet metal and slipped it over the screws when I cut them to length. That's to lay the saw blade on to protect the base. then file to get them perfect.

No t nuts. I just super saturated the mounting holes with high quality epoxy and threaded in the screws. If you wax the screw threads they are easier to remove. I'll test the idea this winter and see how it holds up. Pretty sure it'll be fine.

That is kind of what I thought you meant but I am not sure. I don't particularly like the cheese head screws on the factory splits, and I got the K-clips, so I am deciding how to best mount them, but your idea looks slick.

The K-clips do require one of the screws to be threaded not the clip from the bottom.
