I recently bought a pair of Spark Blazes and a new pair of Salomon Malamutes (to replace my 6-year-old boots!). I decided to throw the new Malamutes in the Blazes to see how they fit. I have the medium Blazes and a size 9 boot. It looks to me like there is a lot of overhang on the toe side of the binding. This is with the heel cup moved all the way back, too. Any thoughts? Am I worrying too much or do you agree? I was thinking that I might need to switch to the large Blazes, but they're actually the same length as the mediums (per the Spark R&D website). Here are some photos:

Its a moot point without the binding on the board. Show us a photo of that. Also check to see if you can move the heelcup back.

The heel cup is moved all the way back already (see original post). I know my toe edge won't hang over the board itself since these new boots are the same size as my old ones and I've been riding my board for a few years now. I'm more concerned w/ overall performance. For example: if my toes hang over the binding too much, will it affect turns/carving? It might not even be noticeable when I ride. I'll find out this weekend.

My bad for not readin bettr.

It doesn't look like that much hang from the last photo. And if your old binding were voile plates i think you will be stoked.

I have Medium blazes w/ size 10 malamutes and it's not a problem. I have the heel cup all the way back and I think it just looks weird cuz the "toe" ramp isn't really centered under the toe.

It's not the overhang in board mode that matters, but rather the limited stride and tendency of snow to get packed down under the toe in ski mode.

It'd be nice if the Large binding was actually longer to permit a more natural pivot point.

I have the same problem with my ignitions using size 12 32 boots. I saw that voile now sells riser plates to help deal with this issue. But it seems like something that is easily improvised.

That would help, but so would hard boots with dynafits. Maybe that's why myself and 3 other locals are so smitten with the conversion - we all have big feet and uphill is so much more natural now.
