I ride Flows exclusively, but that's due to economic convenience. I'm nervous they aren't going to work that well with the shape of my brand-spankin'-new Drivers, but we shall see in the next few weeks.
I think people really dig the Burton C60 for hard-core steeps and such. I've seen the Rome Targa, and it's pretty darn Steezey at a much more reasonable price than the C60. It appears to be a good all-around binding without a lot of extra weight. Maybe the ladies on here can state boots that do/don't work with the Sparks.
My wife rides a women's 8.5 boot and they do not fit in the Bent Metal bindings that you would use with a Spark setup securely. Would be rad if Spark would come with a smaller base plate.

What's up Drew,
My wife has a size 7? boot and we got it to fit in the Sparks.
If your friend doesn't want to drop the coin for the Sparks then I would recommend a light weight aluminum binding. I never liked how plastic baseplates flexed on the slider plates. I know Ride has aluminum baseplates.

Sizing chart on BCO sez they fit down to a Women's size 8 for the Restraint M/L. haven't tried it myself, mind you - but that binding is a good way to go if you think you might upgrade to the spark later. you can buy the base only from will

Update - turns out my wife wears a 7.5 not an 8.5. I picked up a set of the Bent Metal Restraints for her to try anyway. I adjusted them down as small as they will go and was able to get the straps to settle nicely. Unfortunately, there's too much width in them for a 7.5 Women's boot which made her boot want to move around in the binding. She was able to partially compensate by over tightening the straps but that created painful pressure points. So, no spark solution for small female feet at this time...
