Hi, I am looking into getting or making a splitboard but I am a bit confused with the binding options, I am guessing that you cannot use or modify normal snowboard bindings?
Are all Splitboard bindings standard? Basically if i was to make a Splitboard with the voile system, would I then be able to use Karakoram or another type of binding or would I have to use the voile bindings?

You have four broad options, then several sub-options. All these options use the same hole pattern (or i guess also you can drill out your own holes).
1. Almost any soft boot snowboard binding mounted on a slider plate, uses pucks. 2. Integrated slider binding (Spark), uses pucks. 3. Karakoram system, does not use pucks. 4. Hardboot setup, uses pucks and dynafit toepieces for touring.
Or you could make your own.
You can find lots of opinions if you search the forum, but I think it's fair to say that option #1 is the cheapest, and also the least satisfying in terms of weight, ride quality, and board control.

You can use regular bindings, you just mount them on a Voile "slider" adapter plate. It adds weight and is not ideal, but can totally get you started.

Nearly all splitboards use the Voile bolt pattern to mount bindings. You can mount all binding systems on that bolt pattern, be it Karakoram, Voile, Spark, etc. Most bindings use Voile pucks bolted into the deck bolt holes, and then the binding slides onto the pucks. Karakoram uses their own proprietary base plates, but they bolt to the standard deck hole pattern too.

If you use the Voile bolt pattern, you can run pretty much any binding, including Karakorams.
