So I just got my backcountry splitboard set-up and I am having to change it up a little. I wanted a boot that would do anything and was super comfortable so I went with the Baruntse La Sportiva. I also have a Jones Solution with Spark Blaze bindings. The problem comes in with the Binding straps putting to much pressure on the lace hooks(duh should have thought of that before buying),the pain is unbearable. I also hike a lot of steep icey trails so I would like to keep the Baruntse for sure. Will the Baruntse work well with the Voile mountain plate kit? Or is there a better option? Thanks nick

I wouldn't even consider riding plated in mine
Why not? Not to be smart or anything. I've been toying with a mountaineering boot/plate biding+higback setup a la Brett. I would think it would save strap-in hassle and weight.
Do you think the welts on you Spantiks aren't big enough or that the sole is not stiff enough?
I guess it depends on conditions. I would probably consider a plate/bail setup for pow conditions. But for spring/firm/corn conditions I personally want the added support provided by a binding w/highback. Brett's solution addresses that, but I prefer to be a bit closer to the board.
Spantik soles are definitely stiff enough, and the welts are probably sufficient depending on the diameter of the bail wires you use. Can't comment on the Baruntse directly tho.
