Simple answer. YES.
Even the super duper best bindings on the market will suck because they are attached to slider plates, raising your feet up, getting rid of stiffness. And its heavier.
You can get by without them, I did for two years, but once you get them, you realize what you missed. Might as well go all out.

There are hundreds of pages of commentary on this topic to be found here at splitboard.com. Do some reading and you'll quickly see that split-specific binders save weight, move you foot closer to the board, and have less parts to lose/break.
Does it really matter if I get "split board specific" bindings? Are they going to be that much better than a good pair of Burtons for example?

It makes splitboarding feel like snowboarding. Go for a run or two on your slider plates, then try sparks or karakorams or the light rails and you will never, ever, look back.

Don't let our comments stop you from getting the splitboard. The bindings can come after, it will definitely give you an appreciation for them once you have them. Splitboarding is fun with plates, it is just much more fun with split specific binders. And you'll get stronger lugging the extra ~2 or so pounds up the mountain.

True, it could be nicety try both ways and compare the differences. That way I wont need to be as rushed to get the binders and still be able to go out

i used heavy *%a#@ bindings for a few years, finally this season I got some Voile light rails. Holy crap what a difference! Touring is easier, feeling is better while riding and because of the weight savings I feel like I can actually ollie and pop off of lips, bounce from pillow to pillow with ease!!!! but yeah, get the board first....

I know you've already made the right decision, but yeah I went Sparks pretty quickly. One thing was on the Burton's the toe strap drops out if you don't clip it since it's not on the base w/ the Voile sliders. Yeah no biggie till the one time you forget and you have no toe strap.
Plus the weight savings and proximity to the deck is killer. My splitty is a S-series 162 and the weight drop going to sparks is huge.
AND my changeover on the blazes is 2x as fast. I found sometimes I'd boot pack sections rather then mess w/ the transfer and skins, which defeats the purpose and tires you out. Makes my skier friends happy.
