I use these boots this year, 400 g lighter than tlt5, riding feeling are not the same as tlt5 because of the softness, but thanks to the BOA system feet are well retained and the heel does not lift.
During the climb mobility is greater then tlt5.

I tried to ride with rear boot open or closed and I have more confidence with both boots locked.

Interesting, I was looking at this boot earlier in the year.

I definitely wouldn't try riding with the boots open. Is there any opportunity to mod the boots to allow some forward-lean flexibility in ski mode? the ability to mod the TLT5s is part of at makes them a "standard" for many splitboarders.

Dang, I need a serious 'sugar mama' to rock those!

Edit: thought you were referring to the Alien 1.0

I use to ride with +45° in the front and +30°/+15° on rear boot depending on board waist.
A friend of mine has Alien 1.0 with carbon fiber upper shell and he use to ride with rear boot open saying that otherwise it's too stiff and can't bend knee, I use the plastic one and prefer riding with both boots closed, also if on soft snow you can ride with rear boot open.

I didn't try to modify but I think that something can be done, maybe using an elastic or a spring system on lever.
