Anyone know of a boot that both climbs and rides well? Looking for a do-it-all boot for the wife- something she can ride in pleasurably, but also climb in. She's an absolute noob to riding and I don't want to turn her off by sticking her in climbing boots and shoving her down the hill... she doesn't have that kind of suck-tolerance. Is anyone making a stiff-soled, welted snowboard boot? AT hardboots are not out of the question, but I'd rather get her something that climbs better, for harder mixed lines.
Question number two is similar but different... I'm currently using a pair of Phantom Guides, and they pretty much suck for riding. Very soft ankle, weak edge control. But I love the boots for climbing- so much so that I'd rather just deal with it for riding, if no other solution exists.. However, I feel like surely someone must have come up with a solution for this. Has anyone had any luck adding calf straps or zipping in ankle-stiffeners or similar?
i assume that you are the same ben from cascadeclimbers.com?
ive seen some of your trip reports and those lines youve been climbing up on the volcanos would well suited for the tlt-5. ive seen lots of people climb Hood's NF right gully in them-
