Just replaced my old salamons with a pair of Burton Grails. I like the lace up , light weight, and they are much stiffer than my packed out "slippers". Problem is that my old boots were very comfortable.(Probably due to the lack of support). I sized down a half size in the burtons. I'm wearing them around the house and they are causing some slight discomfort in the balls of my feet and the tips of my big toes but my toes don't feel scrunched. Any opinions on whether I should size up? Burton will take the return as long as I don't wear them outside.

New boots are never comfortable. They'll break in.
Your old boots were 1/2 size larger, but were probably made from a different last so it's hard to compare. Can you remember if your old boots were uncomfortable when they were new?

I don't remember my old boots being this bad. I use to always buy hockey skates tight too. I dropped a lot of money on a pair of grafs one year that broke in but were still always unbearably tight. I just don't want to run into that again, so I think I'm going to bump up half a size eventhough I know they're going to be a bit too loose.

Do you still have the insoles from your old boots? Drop those in the Burtons. New insoles will be flat and hard and may put pressure on the balls of your feet while the old ones should be packed out to the form of your foot.

Thats a great idea about the insoles. Atleast till you break them in some. I opted for the larger half size. I'm glad I did. They have a pretty snug feel. Just some slight heel lift. But I think I will be able to play with that after a few runs and a heat mold.
