or maybe it's bootie.

My current problem is that my lady's feet get really cold in our cabin. We heat with a wood stove and morning-time, before the stove gets roaring, can be a bit chilly. She works from home on the computer so there's not a ton of blood flow and her feet get especially cold. If her feet aren't happy, I'm not happy - if you know what I mean. So we're in the market for down booties. Yes, I know this might not be the right place for this subject, but it's all footwear, right?

We've read a some good things about the western mountaineering down bootie and are kind of leaning in that direction, but if anyone has any suggestions or positive experiences with a particular down bootie I would stoked to hear it (or if there's a thread I totally missed). It doesn't really need to be a durable camp-style bootie - just WARM, WARM, WARM. Even two small marmot sleeping bags if they get the job done.

If you are just wearing them around the house, the sierra designs booties are fine, and cheaper. Wearing them around the house all the time will wear out those fancy (and $$) Western booties. Save the Western Mountaineering booties for BC trips in the snow.

Or just get her some nice leather/wool slippers...

+ 1 for the Sierra Design, they are inexpensive and they work.
My house is a relocated mining house from the old town of Lark and it has zero insulation so it goes without saying the booties rock when kicking it in the winter.

I guess I should have prefaced this by saying I have tried this before. I picked up a pair of 700 fill North Face booties and they didn't work for her at all - 0. So, I'm a little hesitant to go with a similar pair... I'm going for total overkill. I want those little puppies TOASTY! I'm looking for something Sir Robert Scott might have commissioned - deep freeze expedition booties.

Haven't had any experience with the sierra design, but I'm just not sure they're up to the challenge. Leather, wool slippers might be a good option... maybe some mukluks.

This is a noble cause.

Check the burlier offerings from Western Mountaineering and Feathered Friends. Those are quality and pricey. The Western Mountaineering Expedition booties are Shackleton worthy.

You can also add extra foam to the footbed of any bootie and significantly increase its insulation from the cold ground, which is the primary source of heat loss. Remember though that insulation is just that, it's not a heater...

Go for the higher top Sierra Designs. I have the Pull-On Down Bootie and love them. I used to have North Face ones, but they were lower and harder to get on. I am actually wearing mine right now. Get her a good sweater too! I always have cold or clammy feet- or super sweaty! I have definitely learned over the years that even if I feel warm, except for my feet, I will put on a hoodie or fleece. That will get me toastier and in the next half hour my feet will warm right up.

I own an older pair of Sierra Designs down booties that I love and use all the time winter camping and even just fall backpacking and I love them. Although I am waiting for them to wear out so I can treat myself to the Feathered Friends booties.

Good luck I know what you mean about if her feet aren't happy you're not happy! haha!

She likes the idea of a removable/duel use shell & liner for camping. Kind of getting 2 for 1 booties. But the biggie is that they look (and report to be) super-warm - I'll be posting some reviews shortly.
