I broke my Achilles tendon back in 2000 and the first thing (and same thing I've done afterwards, when I've had pain in there) was that I raised my heel about 0,3-05 inch inside the boot/shoe. So what I recommend you to do, and it is not even expensive, is that you put some cardboard or similar under your insole and raise your heel nicely and try to find out the point where pain eases. After it starts to heal, lower it 1/10 inch in a month next three months and it should be as good as new, if the diagnosis is right.
