April 11, 2013 at 5:21 am #667724 jimw 1421 Posts It’s been melted out for a while. There’s an eastside thread on TGR, someone posted pics from riding a road bike up to the park entrance like a week or so ago. Someone else had a great idea for accessing the upper stuff before the gate opens – use a scooter! Genius!! I never thought I would ever say this about the eastside springtime ritual around 120 opening… but I dunno if it’s worth it this year. This has been the driest season since… well since they started keeping track. If the road opened to the east gate tomorrow it would be worth it, but unfortuantely I doubt it will open before the fishing opener (last weekend in April) due to rockfall concerns – that’s from a friend that works for Caltrans. That said I’m sure there will be some good stuff up high once the road opens, but probably all the typical stuff off the plateau will be burnt, and there may be more dry hiking than usual. Time to get yer splitboot on!! Viewing 2 posts - 1 through 2 (of 2 total) You must be logged in to reply to this topic.
