Seems like there’s a splitfest going on just about every week with good snow (or not) in the Sierra. Is it winter yet? I miss you guys! :grouphug:

Cascade splitfest. Memorial weekend 2008. Spearheaded by snoslut.
Imo, you can say eric is directly responsible for inspiring the mt baker splitfest, and many of the guys splitting in the puget sound today.

They had a splitfest in Norway last year.
I wasn’t there but the info should still be somewhere on this page.

I’m Terry the originator of the Mt Baker Splitfest. If you have any questions for me please e-Mail me, I sent you a note.

Great to see all the love on here for the Mt Baker Splitfest.

Ale, I have no idea who you are speaking of so he was of no inspiration for the Mt Baker Splitfest. The inspiration for the first Mt Baker Splitfest was this forum and the lack of something in the PacNW.

    In Washington…
To my knowledge, first unofficial Cascade spiltboard fest was in 2008 at Crystal Mt. It came together via the partners wanted forum on this site.

Mt Baker splitboard fest would be the first official with sponsors, raffles, and such.

J, if you need more history let me know.

    Downunder Splitfest Dates
New South Wales Festival will be early Sept 2013
Victorian Festival will be late Sept 2013.

These will be flexable to make sure all can make the NZ splitfest as well

    HEY EVERYBODY!!!:

Sorry to shout but I am in the early planning stages of a Wasatch Splitfest for 2013. The current target timeframe for the splitfest will be January 23rd to 26th 2013, to coincide with the SLC Winter Outdoor Retailers Show. More details to follow. At this point, I invite any and all interested parties to please PM me and lemme know:

    1. If this is a datestomp with another splitfest that you are organizing.

    2. If you are a manufacturer, educator, filmmaker, or individual interested in potentially contributing a film, slideshow, educational presentation, etc for the event.

    3. If you would like to attend a get-together on Wednesday October 10th to discuss the event and have some burgers and beers at my house.

    We’re gonna do this, word!

What about snoslut at the 2007 gathering in Tahoe busting out cans of Guinness at random spots throughout the tours. He was short on weed though. :thatrocks:

Thank you to those who sent me info and pictures.

Here is a link to the latest edition of the online Splitboard Magazine.

    http://www.splitboardmag.com/06-catalog-12-13/06-cover/?lang=en

The article turned out to be one of the main features. Be sure to check out the link at the end of the article for more information about past and present splitfests. I got a little long winded and so we broke it out into two sections. One for the magaine and the rest for their blog.

Nice! But you only got 2 pages, WTF? That hardly scratches the surface! 🙂

Hey, I’m in that opening pic. In front of me is fullers2oh, who moved to the southern hemisphere and disappeared, and scruffy in the lead, trying to figure out where the next step should go since at that point it was about 6″ of fresh on top of solid blue ice. And TEX, isn’t that guy in the back your annoying skiier “friend”?? 🙂 Fun times.

Wish I had seen this earlier. I have a ton of pics from old splitfests stored off somewhere. Maybe we can use this thread to maintain a broader “living” history. Also, in case folks didn’t see it, nice job on the page cataloging the various splitfests:

I’ve only been to a couple splitfest here in Utah. It seems like the focus was 1.) Education such as assessing snow and mountain travel. 2.) Product development and 3.)FUN. It’s where I first met characters like Bob Athey (Wizard of the Wasatch) and Brett Kobernik (Kowboy). Who set the example and made me think differently about my art. I would throw some love to Voile. Love em or hate em. It doesn’t matter what dirt bag splitfest it is they are the 1st to step up and show support. Not just by throwing a shirt here or a jacket there but by going full out. I always kind of questioned why since guys wouldn’t really return the appreciation. But they still without hesitation would throw down and set the standard for others to follow. I also love how Voile is not afraid to take a political stance to advocate whats best for splitters and support Avalanche centers and Avalanche science. I hope other companies see the importance of these events because it builds the community and provides the opportunity to educate and hook people up with solid partners who share the same passion. Looking forward reading the article.

On a side not I swear at one of splitfest a guy came and pitched his idea for a snowboard. Basically it was bannana shaped board what later became a full rockered board. I kinda laughed at the idea but he swore it rode powder like nothing else. Anyone remember that guy.

UTAH, that post nailed the essence of the splitfest. We must have been at the same one – I remember scooby2 showing those boards. That was the only Utah splitfest I went to, and it was awesome. The first day me and dutch marc tried to tour with Bob Athey and a few others, and after a while they basically told us how to get out of the drainage to BCC because they were going over another ridge and we were lagging. I had never seen people skin like that!

Anyway, here are a few pics of scooby2’s awesome creations that he brought to that splitfest:

His homemade, reverse-camber, carbon fiber “Preflex” pow-slayer boards

    The SPLIT-SLED!!
