Just picked up a Voile Artisan 162 W as my first split.. Took an avy one course on the peaks last year through KPAC, getting my WFR this january. down to get out as much as possible this upcoming season. Obviously all you Arizonans hit me up, I’m also willing to drive to CO,NM, and UT. Peace

Well, I’m always happy to have someone new and young to break trail for me. 😛
There’s a few of us on this board that call the Peaks home. Are you here in FLG?
Keep in touch when the season gets close.

Down. 5th winter, I can safely and confidently navigate all Snowbowl trails, so I’m looking forward to challenging myself by expanding my knowledge, skills and experience by finally getting out of the resort & into the backcountry. I’ll be taking KPAC’s first available Avi 1 course in Jan. until then getting by & getting the gear together. Got my first split on clearance, last year’s Jones Mountain Twin Split 160. Stiff Solomon Malamute boots for lateral stability while traversing. I’m waiting on the Black Friday sales to complete my kit, any suggestion would be appreciated. I am looking at getting Karakoram Split 30 bindings as Jones already uses their hardware on the board. Come on yer ‘Olde Man Wynter,.. Bring It

Rico, Sting, and Taylor, Yes I live in FLG, have a season pass, and am stoked on this incoming storm. Really excited for this season, just slapped my brand new afterburner’s on and cutting my skins this week. I don’t check this forum often, just wanted to see if there are any local splitters to teach a new dog some old tricks.. which it looks like there are! my email is gcd22@nau.edu, way better way of reaching me. Probably gonna go check out this storm when I get back from Wolf Creek this weekend (Monday or Tuesday). Sting, I highly reccomend the Avy 1 course, hopefully lovejoy and dereck are still teaching it, awesome dudes.

    WINTER IS HERE!!! XD :bananas:

Just added up the inches on the upper end of the NOAA predictions, 4.5′ possible at 10,000 by Monday for the peaks. I’m out of shape now but usually hike my way into good shape by mid-season. I’m always into getting out when i can. Usually weekends and school holidays. Resorts a good place to start in the early season, (good base of shit-snow 😉 ). Lots of splitters in Flagpole these days….

I was planing the same trip i’ll shoot you a pm, I guess there’s been some hikers denied by security so  we’ll have to get going early. I think if we avoid the snow making and grooming operations their should be no worries.

hey zude, were you up there this morning? Got some great turns in just from hiking to the top of ridge. I didn’t get hassled and we were just finishing skinning up by about 8:30. Trees are starting to fill in real nicely!

A buddy of mine, Chris Fabbro, was flying over Sedona and snapped a few pics y’all might enjoy. Sedona at the bottom and Flag/SF Peaks in the distance.

    And this. . .

Thanks for those pics, HansGLudwig. I grew up around that zone and feeling homesick lately.

Your welcome. I didn’t grow up there but love the area anyway.
Back when I used to teach in China, I would show up late to work on Wednesdays b/c the State-run morning news had an international weather montage which started a few minutes after I needed to leave and included footage from the previous sunrise in Sedona (along with temps for the day, but I couldn’t care less about that. It was -40ºC where I was!)
I can’t call it homesick but it sure felt good to see it every week.
