Any decent, pretty mellow(going to be going solo and just want to be safe) relatively close to Portland or in close proximity to the 5 or 97 headed south? Watch out for tree wells, some big enough to swallow an elk. Besides lots of sluff in steep spots stability was good. That said, I stopped right before the gully, glade, and face. Spring is here for sure, and it was pretty cool heading up through the 2008 fire. Lemme know if anyone wants to get out this week! There was only sunshine and great snow. Decent skinning starting around 5000ft. Snow was quite consolidated up until treeline in the morning, then turned to packed powder from the cooper spur shelter up. Climbed to around 8000ft on the spur before the clouds rolled in at 3pm, so I transitioned and headed back down to the shelter. It was still clear there so the lady and I basked in the sun for a bit and then rode down. Snow was soft and not quite slushy the rest of the way until we had to go back to walking for the last 2 miles or so to the car. Unexpected great day on the north side of Hood. Hoping to get back over there soon to climb all the way up the spur if the conditions are right this spring or summer. *Hopefully those pictures worked…. I’m looking to try them out on a tour before making the commitment of buying dynafit toes and bindings. Anyone with a hardboot setup interested in meeting up and giving me a try? I have a 165 zephyr and 161 arbor element (DIY) that are both setup with sparks to offer in return. I’m free every weekend in june and july, maybe we could get up and down one of the volcanoes around PDX.
