IMHO–The most effective way to increase daily visits to the site is for there to be a new blog post or equivalent everyday.

You mean like to two new updates on the homepage today? 🙂

Actually, no. I mean something like Lou Dawson or Steve Romeo’s blogs. Not updates but rather opinion pieces. Lord knows you’ve got plenty of opinions. 😆 Just you freelancing about splitboarding and related stuff.

I don’t even like what Lou Dawson has to say most of the time and I don’t ski but I still check his site everyday to see what he has to say.

I envision the Current Update section to include everything from news releases, articles, opinion pieces, featured galleries and videos, blog updates from the road, sponsor plugs, etc. I don’t envision talking about Hillary Clinton though. 😉

Probably won’t post a daily blog just for the sake of posting a daily blog but who knows what the future will bring. Thanks for your thoughts!

    Oh yeah, one more thing:

Another thing I’d like to see implemented is when you mouseover a forum topic if you get the first sentence or two of the post. Sometimes when the title is vague the mouseover helps (yes, I know that means I’m just being too lazy to click in/click back out…)

Just wanted to mention that I freakin’ HATE that feature. It just bugs me having all these damn popups popping up all over the place on forums that have that enabled. To me it makes it look too busy. I guess it’s semi-useful, but geez, how hard is it to click the link if you want more text?

I agree with Jim on that one.

Thanks for your thoughts jimw (and eco). As OG members of splitboard.com I value you input.

Initially the mouse-over feature annoyed me at TGR but I’ve grown to love it and find it useful. It could be that is due to the fact that there are more topics there that I’m not interested in so the quick review is nice. For this site however the topics are more on-topic so maybe it’s not needed. How about if I start a poll to see what everyone thinks? I’m hoping to get the forum updated this weekend.

Looking good so far with everything. I used to feel like Jim did re: the mouseovers as well, but found them useful for sites with a ton of less than on-topic threads. May/may not be useful here.

What about getting the forum to open in the same window rather than spawning a new window when clicking to it from the homepage?

Not sure if this is an issue on my end, but when using firefox and going to splitboard.com I get pop-up blocker notice. When you type splitboard.com is still redirecting you to another site?

It also does the same thing when I click submit on my posts.

jcocci, what version of Firefox are you on? I’m on 3.0.1 and not seeing that issue.

    3.0.1

I have my settings to block pop-up windows so somehow its treating them as pop-up windows.

Hi jcocci, thanks for the feedback. Here’s a couple things to try.

Re the redirects. Try clearing your browsers cache, temporary internet files, and cookies. (If you plan to support the site through purchases with bc.com, make sure you go through our links here again as they are based on cookies) http://www.splitboard.com gets you to the main site and http://www.splitboard.com/talk gets you to the forum.

For the pop-up issue. Some of the pages and links here I choose to have open in new windows so the user still has the main site page open. Most internal pages I don’t do this with, its just page that link to outside sites. As such, your browser is probably treating these external links as pop-ups. Firefox might allow you to hold down your control button to override this.

Lemmie know if these issues persist.

Its still doing, but i’m not really concerned I think its just my settings on Firefox’ just wanted to make sure it wasn’t something on your end, that’s all. Seems to work just fine with Safari which is what I use mainly anyway. I only use firefox on a PC at work. I’m all Mac at home.

Seems to work just fine in Chrome as well, FYI.

    Thanks jcocci!

I have firefox in addition to safari and don’t see any issues so it must be something to do with the settings.

Thanks for the FYI re Chrome too! :headbang:
