I’m glad I worked so hard on it. 😕 Thank you for your input Tex! August 18, 2008 at 3:49 pm #607123 Jim Daddy 28 Posts i really like the look of the new site. homepage is much improved. August 18, 2008 at 4:12 pm #607125 mtnrider 740 Posts I like the frames format, it’s sectional and seems more organized, to me anyways. I really like the front page current updates. weaknesses, I’d really like to see some articles in the features section. I’m sure this is a total pain getting people to do reviews, etc but I think it would be a real plus to the site. One thing that may force the hand is to remove that section from the talk forum. With people mostly shooting little reviews in there I don’t think this section of the web page will become a reality. The talk forum is the most positive thing you have going for the site…keep spreading the word on that the most and keep uniting new splitters into our community here. Feel free to write something! 😉 I hear ya though, it would be nice to have some content there. I have some stuff in the works (kinda) so I’ll try to get on it soon. Thanks again. The current updates are a nice addition and something I’ll use for sure. The resources section is also an improvement………..one thing to change might be how a separate window pops up if you click on a link from the main index page, but I don’t know how complicated that is………thanks for your hard work. I might have to purchase a new piece of gear…or maybe you can assign me a topic. LOL August 18, 2008 at 6:26 pm #607131 bigdood 457 Posts I like where you’re going with the look feel. Would like to see the top leaderboard moved up above the top nav so that the homepage photos aren’t partially below the fold – takes some off the impact off the photo, would rather see the focus on the photo rather than the monetization (though I understand you’ve gotta make $$). Maybe re-order the top nav categories as well, in order of most used to least? I feel like the Splitboard 101, Mission, etc. will be less used, or viewed 1x per user, maybe push those to the right and move the link to the forum, galleries, etc. over. Also noticed a few links aren’t working (the online shop, the voile vids), and the forum can’t be reached by the domain name (have to use the IP), but as it’s a work in progress I realize you’re probably still working on those things. Appreciate all the work you put in for the community! August 18, 2008 at 7:04 pm #607132 Stagger Lee 242 Posts Me likes! SB.com as helped me through many unproductive hours at work. Thanks for all the hard work and stuff :thatrocks: Cheers August 18, 2008 at 7:08 pm #607133 bcrider 4149 Posts thanks stoudema and bigdood. Will get you both a proper reply when I get back in front of a real keyboard. August 18, 2008 at 7:15 pm #607134 bigdood 457 Posts Another thing I’d like to see implemented is when you mouseover a forum topic if you get the first sentence or two of the post. Sometimes when the title is vague the mouseover helps (yes, I know that means I’m just being too lazy to click in/click back out…) August 18, 2008 at 9:53 pm #607135 kjkrow 353 Posts A couple of thoughts: One way to get more folks to visit the main page/check it our more often, might be to have a “recent forum topics” block (ala http://www.14ers.com). Their site also incorporates the mouseover feature that bigdood referenced. Another potentially touchy subject, but one that I think would be cool would be to have some route information, maybe a Populare Route or Marquee Route page. I’m not suggesting people release their favorite stashes, but for newbies who join up, it might be nice to have a few tours good for splitting that aren’t really published elsewhere. Maybe 1-2 from each major geographical area that we represent as a community. This could also be a nice first travel resource, rather than searching through the pages of old TRs, perhaps. Not sure if it would be worth it, just an idea. What do other folks think? But I like the layout and the direction were moving. Thanks for the feedback stoudema! I chose to have links that take you to other sites (mainly on the Resource page) open in a new window. Mainly so a sb.com window remains open and they remember how they got to the outside site. I’ll probably keep it like that unless folks feel it should really not open a new window. The user would just need to hit the back arrow (or launch a new window) to get back to sb.com. It’s not a big deal but if the user is several clicks deep in the outside side, they may never make it back to sb.com. I’ll put you down in the non-open-new-window group and see what other folks think too. Cool? Thanks again. If its not appropriate for our readers I’ll let ya know, but I think you know what is and isn’t. August 18, 2008 at 10:54 pm #607138 stoudema 550 Posts No problem – actually I can see how it would be beneficial if people are using some links, especially when looking to buy new gear through a sponsor, etc. August 18, 2008 at 11:08 pm #607139 bcrider 4149 Posts @bigdood wrote: Would like to see the top leaderboard moved up above the top nav so that the homepage photos aren’t partially below the fold – takes some off the impact off the photo, would rather see the focus on the photo rather than the monetization (though I understand you’ve gotta make $$). Not sure I totally follow. When you say leaderboard do you mean banner ad? I’m not sure it would look clean with the banner ad above the blue sb.com header. Re the banner ads, you’re right…sites like this rely on those so it’s going to stay. Are you viewing the site mainly on a lappy? On my 15” lappy the bottom of the cover photo is just barley out of view. On Desktops its all there (and then some). I could make the cover pic smaller to accommodate our readers using laptops but wouldn’t a smaller pic take away from the impact of the photo as well. @bigdood wrote: Maybe re-order the top nav categories as well, in order of most used to least? True that the core users and everyday visitors won’t be viewing those pages daily but from a first time visitor perspective, I think it flows better that way (left to right as to where you should start). For the core users, it doesn’t seem that hard to look the the center and right a little. I’m open though, if everyone agrees with you I will think about changing the nav menu order. @bigdood wrote: Also noticed a few links aren’t working (the online shop, the voile vids), and the forum can’t be reached by the domain name (have to use the IP), but as it’s a work in progress I realize you’re probably still working on those things. The Voile vids should work fine but I think you need to float over the box perimeter and not the two video squares. I should probably change that. Just means I have to link two things instead of one. No biggie. Definitely need to fix the store link, thanks for the FYI. I changed the page name and it killed the link. Fairly easy fix. Thanks again for your thoughts!
