Well…Carbondale, really. But I’ll be spending my weekdays working on the Little Nell project, right next to the Gondy in Aspen! It all happened so fast: I got a new job, a studio apartment high in the hills with a direct view of the north face of Sopris. After the first of the year I should be all settled in.

I’m looking forward to some serious conquests of the Elk Mountains this winter and spring. Look me up if you’re in town!

Congrats! I lived about 5 miles up the Frying Pan outside of Basalt for about 3 years. It’s a killer location, 4 mountains at the end of a dead end road (in the winter) combined with the 3.5-4 hour drive from Denver keep the crowds away. The $80+ lift tickets don’t hurt keep the riff-raff out either. More BC than you can ski in a lifetime. Snowmass and Aspen Highlands rule as far as the resorts there, Ajax is OK, Buttermilk is for the X-games and useless otherwise IMHO.

Carbondale is nice. The multi-billionares live in Aspen (2 weeks a year anyway), the hundred-millionares live in Woody Creek (2 weeks a year anyway), multi-millionares live in Basalt (2 weeks a year anyway), millionares live in Carbondale, the upper-upper-middle class live in GWS, and everyone that serves all those poeple live in Rifle and beyond.

Transient younger population (people come for 3-4 months then leave) and rich assholes finally got old for me and I moved on, but I miss the landscape for sure. That and Hunter S. Thompson blew his head off and he was kind of the last of the non-corporate Aspen left. Not being able to watch him scare people/fans at the Woody Creek Tavern was a big loss.

Funny story: I was at Erics in Aspen (big pool bar etc..). Started talking to a girl at the bar about traveling and what not. I had just got back from a business trip in Europe, the girl asked “what kind of plane did you fly over on”, I said “I don’t know, a 747 or somthing”. She goes “eww, you fly commercial?” and walked away all disgusted.

    Only in Aspen.

    Enjoy!

    Congrats Luca

The Aspen area is real nice……. way better than anything in the Frontrange IMO.

I was just up there this past weekend for the Highlands opening.
    It was epic!!!

Had first tracks down the G-6 chute of the Bowl.
I will never forget that one! WOW was that fun.

    And UB:
That story with the girl at Eric’s is pretty funny.

Yeah, it is in hindsight. I was rather pissed at the time, so I bought a $15 glass of $25/bottle scotch to ease the pain. 😉

“I don’t know Lloyd, the French are a$$holes.”

    Funny Aspen story #2:
When you are diving down valley to go to wally world or get other necessities (if you shop the City Market in Aspen you are crazy), before the second turn to Woody Creek on the right (Upper River Road I think) you’ll see a gray barn out in a clearing on the right. If it’s not covered with snow there is a huge middle finger pained on the roof (15 ft tall at least) in clear view of the road. That barn belongs to the dad of a guy I worked for. Long story short, his wife was cheating on him or something, they got divorced, she moved to Basalt and works in Aspen he kept the house and barn, he painted that huge middle finger for her to see as she drives to and from work every day. Last I heard they were trying to get him to paint over it, but that had been going on for 5-10 years.

There are some strange folks up there for sure. I could go on and on…….
