Forums Splitboard Talk Forum Dave Downing Appreciation Thread Viewing 11 posts - 1 through 11 (of 11 total) Author Posts January 26, 2010 at 9:06 pm #572882 powderjunkie 1666 Posts I’m kinda stealing this appreciation thread idea from the Supertopo folks. There are so many good riders and many should get more props than they get, but I thought I’d start off with Dave. I just saw his profile on the Standard Snowboard Show last night and the guy has still got it. Seems super cool and down to earth. He rips any kind of terrain and he was instrumental in the progression of splitboards. …and I bet he lurks on the forum. http://www.fuel.tv/Firsthand/videos/view/1506 January 26, 2010 at 9:30 pm #625307 TEX 2486 Posts as a new old schooler I would have to agree. I think Dave laid the skin track for Mr. Jones January 26, 2010 at 10:16 pm #625308 UTAH 830 Posts Yep I remember building a kicker on Sunset 1/4 way back in the day and here comes Dave shredding the main line off Sunset. First line down, poles on his pack, beacon, solo and put down the most beautiful art. Planted a seed for sure. He used to work-out at the SCRC where I worked for my bird pass, super nice guy to talk with and good example in terms of the work it takes to go to the next level. Like his surf style as well. My favorite video part ever was Downing in TB5. Such a soulful, stoke inducing segment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkAKZe5xlAs And his surfing footage is sweet too! I still pop that tape in every once in a while when people ask me if a splitboard can actually hold up to any “fun” riding.. Either way, enjoy… New York Times did an article featuring Splitboarding with words on the subject by Mr. Downing. http://travel.nytimes.com/2009/12/25/travel/escapes/25split.html January 27, 2010 at 5:22 pm #625313 bcrider 4149 Posts Always been a fan of double d’s surf influenced style. His early involvement with splits was definitely influential in my splitting too. :thatrocks: January 27, 2010 at 5:48 pm #625314 spruce cabin 263 Posts Top 5’er for me.
