Been warm and dry up here. Good for working, for touring not so much. Higher elevations are shaping up but the forcast looks like more summer 😥 November 13, 2014 at 3:24 pm #678204 cometogether 385 Posts hope everyone squeezed in one last climb or bike ride! :disco: SHOW ME SOME SNOW PICS! November 15, 2014 at 11:51 am #678205 Matt Wood 328 Posts I’m gonna go up on the pass and stretch the legs tomorrow after work. Not expecting much more than a tour and some meadow skipping. That said, I still can;t figure out how to post photos / video…. :banghead: November 16, 2014 at 7:52 am #678206 broken08 10 Posts The snow is falling…just not ready yet. I’m excited to start my first year of backcountry riding. Since the mountains are taking their time, are there any good touring spots that are ready to skin (safely solo) to get some practice? The closer to denver the better. The closer to denver the better. I toured Mount Falcon park yesterday. On weekdays when it’s snowy there is almost no one there. It has some long uphills and lot’s of trails wide enough to do just fine. And, if no one is around, a couple little spots to cut a few turns. It needs more snow though, a couple spots burned through. If you’re ever interested, hit me up, I live down the road and love company. When going, enter from the Parmalee Gulch road side, it sees almost no car and foot traffic all winter. Let’s hope December keeps it going. @sun_rocket November 24, 2014 at 5:22 pm #678211 cometogether 385 Posts pics or it didn’t happen!!! :nononno: I am sidelined for a little with some nagging IT band issues, hopefully my PT this month will help loosen things up and get me back out there. I’ve heard that some local spots are really filling in nicely, lets hope that keeps going well into the coming months! MORE PICS LESS TALK after the last round of storms last week, hiked a good ways in the early morning cold to find the wind had beat us there…! <img src="“ November 25, 2014 at 6:47 pm #678212 summersgone 814 Posts About 20″+ claimed from the last storm by Red Mountain Pass on CAIC. I found about 12″ of new snow from Saturday into Sunday by end of day. This was taken at 11,500′, on an E aspect. Didn’t get into avalanche terrain as things were not overly stable from previous storm. We’ll see what happens in the next few days in terms of stability. Have a feeling if these storms keep up, we might be OK this season. November 25, 2014 at 9:01 pm #678213 HikeforTurns 1113 Posts Anyone getting out tomorrow within a couple hours of Denver? November 28, 2014 at 11:23 pm #678214 summersgone 814 Posts Happy thanksgiving! :nononno: December 31, 2014 at 7:33 pm #776596 summersgone 814 Posts I’m sure people here are getting out, but we are quiet Colorado! You northerners are getting more pow than we are, I wanna see it! We are currently sitting at around 75% of average snowpack in the southern part of our range (Molas South), and Red Mountain is at the average. The southern San Juan is struggling, sitting around 50% of average by Wolf Creek. But winter storm warning in place now, hoping for 8-12″ more. Crossing fingers! Thanksgiving Turns, Velocity Basin December 21st, Prospect Had a pretty close call on this one on Corkscrew Pass. First time really getting in avalanche terrain in a few months. 38 degree slope, entered from the side, put in a big cut on the convexity, nothing. Then second rider had a biiig whoomph as I was taking this picture, no cracking luckily. My butthole just reopened a few days ago. Rode Silverton Mountain the next day. Yay for bombs. January 4, 2015 at 12:00 am #776917 Taylor 791 Posts Been getting out around Monarch–but not much picture making. Avoiding avalanche terrain, enjoying the softness… It. Just. Keeps. Snowing. I’m looking to get out tomorrow, saturday, morning from Evergreen. IF I get the urge I may head to Geneva later this afternoon and stay at the night to get out at first light. Been asking the usual crew in Denver, but no takers, everyone has prior plans. Looking for 1-2 others to tour with. Me: Avy-1 from CMS ’13, splitting for ~2-3 years, riding since ’96. January 16, 2015 at 9:54 pm #778391 cometogether 385 Posts that’s classic “the roll” at bert, super easy type shit, but so many new people riding bert its getting harder to get them good tracks. I have a couple ideas and some bigger spots if we stay high pressure like it has been. STUPID WIND keeps ruining the alpine… hopefully we get some good refills here soon.
