I like PJ’s idea, go way cheap initially and save up for something you’ll really like. It’s a good idea to get some experience riding before committing large amounts of cash so you get an idea of what appeals to you. You’ll ride around on your cheapo and think, “I wish these cranks were longer” or “I wish there were more travel in the fork” and get a good idea of what your ideal bike would be. I’ve got a Klein hardtail and a Santa Cruz full if you want borrow them for a weekend and compare the styles. I think we’re about the same height so they should fit you well. I’ll bet you’ll be stoked on the full though 🙂
