Spring Break Snowboards putting the soul back in shredding splitboard.com December 14, 2011 Videos Spread the love Check out this sweet video from Comune and Spring Break Snowboards. Rider Corey Smith gets back to snowboarding’s roots with his hand built boards and adds some new twists. Super good edit and soundtrack too! Enjoy. The handbuilt snowboard movement seems like it’s been blowing up over the last couple years. Here’s another video showing us that there is so much more to snowboarding than meets the eye. What’s old is new and what’s new is old. I’m not sure what to call this…it’s not noboarding….it’s not powsurfing…so I’m just gonna call it soulshred. It didn’t snow in Tahoe for almost the entire month of January. Out of curiosity and boredom Corey Smith decided to attempt to build some handmade snowboards. He was interested in long boarding style in surfing and exploring similar concepts on snow. He wanted to deconstruct contemporary snowboarding down to its simplest element and find beauty in simply turning. “I’ve always wanted to explore and experiment with snowboarding as a physical outlet of creativity,” states Smith. So he ended up building some experimental snowboards. When it finally did snow record amounts in Tahoe he was glad it did. These boards provided a completely unique snowboarding experience and opened up a world of terrain previously inaccessible on traditional snowboards. Some of the boards were incredibly functional and some were purely conceptual. All the boards also serve as one of kind pieces of functional artwork. “Building and riding these boards has been one of the most best experiences I’ve had snowboarding.” – Corey Smith springbreaksnowboards.com Filmed and Edited by Kevin Castanheira Additional video footage by Ryan Scardigli Music: Jeans Wilder “International Waters” Margo Guryan “Take a Picture” Leave a Reply Cancel ReplyLogin with your Social IDYour email address will not be published.CommentName* Email* Website Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment.
