TLN replied to the topic Do I need to test beacon, and how often? in the forum Avy Discussion Forum 1 year, 7 months ago

It came with latest firmware, 4.00. Im only worrying about shelf-life of beacon and fact that it’s 1 generation behind current models.

TLN replied to the topic Do I need to test beacon, and how often? in the forum Avy Discussion Forum 1 year, 7 months ago

Yeah, that’s what I thought. Any beacon is better than a new beacon, Manual doesn’t say anything about main-in check up, but I remember seeing some report from Mammur when used beacon was sold. Ideally I’d like to get something like that. might mail mammut later.

TLN started the topic Do I need to test beacon, and how often? in the forum Avy Discussion Forum 1 year, 7 months ago

    Hello.

I’ve picked up Mammut Barryvox pulse beacon recently. It was on sale for a good price. It’s new old stock, not many people buying avy stuff here in Chicago. It runs latest firmware so I’m good here.
I was wondering if I need to test it in avy center and get a report or not ? I’m pretty sure I can get basic beacon check whenever I get to…[Read more]

TLN started the topic Driver X vs Malamute sizing in the forum Boots 2 years, 7 months ago

    Hi all.

I was riding in Malamutes for several years (2-3 pairs in 8-9 years) and recently tried Driver X. I went with smaller size, but it ended up very painful: I got flatfoot and it feels too narrow. I got black toe nains, molded em in Burton store, changed insoles, and still painful. And I hate that lacing system: I broke laces twice trying…[Read more]

TLN replied to the topic Lower price board choice in the forum Splitboards 6 years, 3 months ago

I got a Venture Odin from ebay for $300 flat. With 15% discount coupon it resulted me in 255$. Pretty cheap for a great board.

TLN replied to the topic WANTED -Voile 182cm Split and/or 195 Swallowtail Splits in the forum DIY and Mods 6 years, 4 months ago

Hello Bryan. There’s one nice Voile 195 on ebay at the moment. Seller have with regular binders and hardboot binders – great deal, imo.
It wasn’t sold for 450, I believe, but it’s listed for 600 at the moment. There’s some room for discounts 🙂

    Victor.

I got a nice XL jacket softshell, unused and still with tags.

TLN replied to the topic 2 way radios in the forum The Gear Room 6 years, 4 months ago

    Easy: Baofeng Uv-B5.
Grab one off ebay or elsewhere. Works as Yaesu or better raidos. Cost $50.
You can listen to two frequencies at the same time, and talk to them. 99 channels, 5W output. People claimed they have over 20km range in mountains. This might be an overkill, but works great.

TLN replied to the topic Anyone hike with a thermos? Recommendations? in the forum The Gear Room 6 years, 4 months ago

Bought a “thermos” brand from amazon. Scren-in cap, no buttons. Promised to hold for 24h.
Haven’t tested it alot, but I was drinking a how tea next to my pc from it. I spend a day in mountains, and got some tea left from a weekend.

TLN replied to the topic Furberg Snowboards in the forum Splitboards 6 years, 5 months ago

    Hi guys.
I was looking on furberg since it was released. Looks really interesting to me.
I also own swallowtails, and we all know that is fun to.

Does anyone compared riding long swallow to furberg?
I want to get one, but don’t think I really need one and not sure if it get much use, if I have a swallow.

Well, I don’t own any split, and plannig to use this on solid, but I got your idea – about dynafits.
I can get this Raichles cheap, almost free, but even then i may be not worth trying.

TLN replied to the topic Large Size Hard Boot Options in the forum Boots 6 years, 5 months ago

Thermofit and thermoflex is different things.
ThermoFIT – gets your shape when you ride it, and molds a little bit.
ThermoFLEX – requires molding before you ride, in fact, you can barely fit in unmolded one, if you choose right size.

    Here’s photo:
it says: CL liner on the left. CR liner on the right.
CL seems to be thermofit, and it have same…[Read more]

TLN replied to the topic Large Size Hard Boot Options in the forum Boots 6 years, 5 months ago

You can use a thermofit liner, just google Intuition liners or Palau liners. They’re typically used in ski boots or alpine snoboard boots, but I see no problems using in touring boots. They require some molding to your feet, but this is a way to size down your plastic, or in your case fit in biggest shell.
For example, my UPZ RC10 with 312mm shell…[Read more]

Can anyone share experience with that boots?
It looks like it is just between my softboot malamutes and alpine RC10.
Does it worth getting and trying this nowadays? Ok, what is I weight about 95-100 kilos? (210lbs+).

It looks like a nice boots for a swallowtails, doesn’t it?

What board should I split first?
Donek? Since it’s stiff and not as rare as swallows, right?

I already got a four pairs of boot and recently bought a 5th one(it was on sale, with really sweet price). I got 3xMalamutes,UPZ RC10 and Deeluxe 325. Cannot justify one more pair. TLT6 are quite pricey though.

Can it be used with anything but dynafit? I got alpine snowboarding hardboots.

Wonder how do you like previous years board?
From what you said it’s quite stiff, right? I’m 6″3 and 210lbs, hardboots and softboots and wanna get a stiffer board. 🙂 Actually I’d like to get a bigger SCR too but seems I can get either stiffness from previous years or SCR.
