  • Tower Mountain up behind Silverton Mountain, 7 mile, 2K+ snowmobile ride in to where we could skin. N facing coulior at 13K top out. Pow!

  • What are you doing for average vert days CT? 10K day is certainly big. That’s my end goal, but I think it will take a few years and some serious consistent yearly training to get there. I’m not there at the moment. One thing I think is hard with that too is finding motivated people who want to do that as well. But if the conditions are meh, I…[Read more]

  • February was a trying month. I only toured 4 times, and only racked up 15K. Compared to January at 31K, its a bit low, but that’s what low stoke with no snow gets you. I am also coming off a groin pull (hockey), so thats a bit of a setback.

I’m close to on pace for the 150K though I think with the spring season coming, but maybe a little…[Read more]

  • I’m on two pairs currently:
Uphill – OR Storm trackers. Lightweight softshell back of hand, leather palm. I use them pretty much all day on the uphill. If it is 20 degrees or less tho, I normally swap out for the heavier gloves on the way down. For the up, only at like 10 degrees or less I use heavier gloves because these can get a bit cold.…[Read more]

I would put this in the Trip report section, but I don’t have much action shots, so doesn’t warrant. Figured I’d give my thoughts on the Eiseman hut after going there last weekend. I was there for 4 days, 3 nights. This was the first time I’ve stayed in an 10th Mountain division hut, and the first time in a hut in Colorado. I’ve stayed in huts…[Read more]

  • This was my favorite tour I did this year on that side. It is a bit mellower, but gets up to 13,500 and a stellar view of Telluride. One SE facing path that we rode was certainly avalanche prone, but could be avoided if you need. If its not windy out, and conditions permit, its a great one.…[Read more]

he McNamara, answered your post on the other thread.

  • Hey McNamara.

    Conditions:
Deep! About 30″ of new snow on red mountain pass since yesterday morning, and a bit more to come. Obviously this has made widespread avalanche conditions, which will probably be still present for the time you are there (whenever you come). Our conditions change regularly, so be sure to read the CAIC conditions…[Read more]

  • Yeah CT, I suppose we are a bit spoiled down here… I look for lines over 1.5K. I guess I don’t realize sometimes how awesome the San Juans are. I’ve got a few 2K+ lines this year, and I had buddies get a 3,900′ one. Yeah, were spoiled.

Thanks for the beta. Enjoy the pow this weekend all! Stay safe.
