• Yeah, that’s kind of what I figured when I saw that most of the trailheads where in Montana. Need to make friends with some ranchers.
I guess a night at the hot springs might make driving around a mountain range, that would otherwise be 20 minutes away, a little more bearable.
Glad to hear that Lost and Maverick have good BC areas. Lost looks…[Read more]

  • That’s probably the fault of my inefficient translation of information, as I’ve never been to Baker’s park, or any for that matter.
Hitting the beacon with your probe sounds like a way better idea than digging it out to turn it off. I just assumed that you’d dig’em out then turn them off.
I think the problem last year might have been that there…[Read more]

  • I recently heard that Baker was trying to resolve a few issues with their beacon area.
One was keeping a consistent about of snow on top of the search area so users didn’t have to dig 12′ on a good year to find the beacons. To solve this the park might be moved to a more groomer friendly area. Can’t say I know where it is now, but that’s what I…[Read more]

  • I have a jig for my table saw for the cutting part. Got to fix the damage to it, though. Very handy for making the cut(s).

    Hey Jon,
Any chance you might be able to post up a pic of that jig? I’ve been pondering the tablesaw vs. skilsaw with a straightedge issue in my head for a while. I keep coming down on the skilsaw side. What I really…[Read more]

I lived there until I was in 8th grade, when I moved to the Bay Area for high school. Ended up back there every other weekend though, then back in the Valley for college in Davis.

Most of the family core has either passed on or moved. My cousin graduated from Merced High in ’88, I think. My dad still lives part-time in Planada with his…[Read more]

    Dang Ecobrad,
Sounds like you’re a Merdead local from way back in the day.
    Represent!! 😀

  • The 2010 target is both encouraging and disappointing at the same time. It sounds like they’re hitting the ground running, trying to get it over here in what is, in effect, the next model year. Disappointing in the sense that the darn things are here already.

Are you planning on importing one or just really, really hoping for a US release?
If you’re going the import route, care to share some beta on the particulars of getting one into the states?
Didn’t realize there was an aftermarket urea injection system.

When I paddled with him last June, he was building them in his house. I seem to remember something about a new press soon and two sizes; a 165 and a 179. I checked out one of the cores and it looked pretty sweet. I think it was more of broduction than production at that point, but a new press might have changed that.
Nice guy and a good…[Read more]

I’m definitely interested. Won’t have the bread until November though. If that works, sign me up.
You wouldn’t happen to know Jeff in Slocan Park who makes snowboards?
Had some good times in the Slocan. Love the Koots!

  • For some reason I thought this came from a mag.
The interweb is a whole ‘nother matter.
    Carry on.

  • Hmm, interesting bit of revision to the vernacular on the part of Snowboarder.

This has me looking at the graybird outside and wishing for warm desert river water.
I knew some folks a number of years ago who did this trip and really liked it. They, however, never shared any photos. Your pics now have me totally convinced.

  • Have to bump this and throw my .02 in.
Patagucci makes two different inseam lengths on their boxers. I ordered a few and chose the longer ones. A bit too much sag for good mobility. Returned them for the shorter inseam version, which I have been happy with for the last couple of years.

  • Hey Monk,
I’d be interested in some of those t-nuts as well.
That’s a pretty schnazzy looking bit you got there. Does the shoulder on that thing just end up butting up against the base, keeping the depth of cut consistent?

  • Hey Bigdood,
Thanks for the heads up on those D3’s. Anyone else who wants in on that deal should get on it. I spent about half and hour hanging out at the customer service desk at the Seattle store while calls were made all over the US trying to track one down(thanks Rhonda!). I think there are still a few around, but the REI inventory doesn’t…[Read more]
