My mates in Japan has this very same problem last year, check out the thread that I started here about it:

    http://splitboard.com/talk/topic/malfunctionpins-falling-out-of-tesla-bindings/

After reading your report, I’m a bit disappointed that this problem is still occurring. The press-fit design is not very robust from a structural standpoint and…[Read more]

andbrown, my friend had to bash in the pin pretty hard. Not sure how much it will continue to move as a result — not something he wants to find out, so he will probably switch back to his LT-pin system bindings for now.

Their customer service is polite. But I have asked a bunch of questions about what caused this malfunction and how to prevent…[Read more]

Just an update for anyone following this thread, I was with the original
friend who experienced the lost pin (right binding). Today we hiked 700
meters to the top of a chute here in Japan and when he transitioned from
skin to ride mode, the inside pin on his left binding was protruding
enough so that he couldn’t lock the toe-ramp down, like…[Read more]

pow_hnd, Spark got back to me and said they would send some replacement baseplates
    for my friends here.

My opinion is this is a low-probability / high-risk situation. You might be ok for half the
season, but should the pin fall out, you could be in a very exposed situation. What are
you going to do if you have a +5 hour exit that you were…[Read more]

schralptowner, if you are set on coming over, let me know. I could probably hook you up with the right people for lines and lodging, at least in the Nagano/Hakuba area.

If your DVD is not region-limited, probably the best bet is to contact small local stores directly, send a few demos and see if they’re interested in carrying stock.

    hey, if…[Read more]

That animal is called a “kamoshika” in Japanese. In English it’s called a Japanese serow, looks like a cross between goat and deer:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_Serow

We see them from time to time during the winter as they don’t hibernate. Usually are pretty tame, but as a friend found out they can get pretty ornery if you happen to corner one.

SanFrantastico yeah, we should have lots of trip-reports this year. We finally decided to ditch Tokyo and move full-time to the mountains. Another goal is to take our photography to the next level and put together a photo-album of backcountry in Japan. There are some amazing areas here, if you’re willing to put in the time hiking in. Hokkaido gets…[Read more]

    Jogi,
Just wondering, what size did you use for the colltex rubber clamps on the end?
There are a bunch listed here:

I’ve thought about tossing the slider plate gasket also (to get a stiffer interface).
bcrider, why do you think it is more important for stiff/metal bindings?

I just got a new camera (Panasonic DMC-FZ5), this season hope I can come up with some good shots like this.

ok for those interested here’s a re-post of the Shimano-stuff:

Shimano Snow Technologies. It looks like the Accublade is the new line coming out this year (whereas Rapidfire is a bit older):
