I’ll be working while there which will limit trips to weekends but definitely interested in finding people to go out with! I’ll message you both. Mike replied to the topic 32 Jones MTB in the forum Boots 1 year, 9 months ago “the original footbed is garbage” I suspect this is true of most/many boots. The footbed on the Burton DriverX isn’t good, either – I swapped mine out for Sidas footbeds. Mike replied to the topic Backpack: Mammut Nirvana vs Osprey Kamber in the forum The Gear Room 1 year, 9 months ago I’ve been using a Mammut Nirvana Pro 35L for the last three seasons. I find the back panel access pretty useful but it adds weight, which is the tradeoff. Mike replied to the topic First splitboard advice in the forum Splitboards 1 year, 9 months ago I’ll second what bcall8 said on the board. I have a Carbon Solution 162W and it’s not a board I enjoy riding in tight trees (though I do like it overall). Mike replied to the topic Voilé Speed Rail vs Karakoram Prime Connect in the forum Bindings 1 year, 10 months ago @Snurfer – I get Error 404 when I click on the link to the review. I’d be interested to read it. Mike replied to the topic Wide splitboard skins in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 1 year, 10 months ago I have a Carbon Solution 162W (30.3 / 26.3 / 30.2) and the G3 Alpinist skins (technically the white label version for Backcountry.com) fit fine. I’d be surprised if you had an issue with the skin width. That said, I’d just go with permnation’s link – hard to beat that price and Jones skins are made by Pomoca anyway. Mike replied to the topic Splitboard Backpack Recommendations in the forum The Gear Room 1 year, 10 months ago I’ve had a Mammut Nirvana Pro for four seasons now and I’m happy with it. Came recommended by ski patrol here. Comfortable, lots of features. Unfortunately it seems like it’s expensive in the US. I managed to pick one up while in Europe for about $140. Mike replied to the topic Another skin thread in the forum The Gear Room 1 year, 11 months ago “Can anyone comment on the most recent version of the G3 Alpinist and/or the backcountry.com version?” I bought the Backcountry.com version simply because the price was so good (I paid $81 for them). I haven’t had any problems with the glue so far. I’ve been using skin savers with them which I think G3 recommends. Neil McNab also used (uses?) G3…[Read more] Mike replied to the topic Alternative toestrap for Karakoram Prime Carbon in the forum Bindings 1 year, 11 months ago Thanks for the replies. The suggestion from Karakoram was to get the Airform toe straps. I’ll give that a try. Mike replied to the topic Ultralight Splitboarding – Save kilograms or pounds and perform better in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 1 year, 11 months ago Very interesting thread. Spare liner gloves are a great idea. Worth putting them in a ziploc bag as I have had gear inside my pack get wet as a result of it sitting on the snow during breaks/transitions. One piece of lightweight gear recently recommended to me by a guide was this jacket, which he likes for the uptrack. I’d never though to take a…[Read more] Mike started the topic Alternative toestrap for Karakoram Prime Carbon in the forum Bindings 1 year, 11 months ago Does anyone know of an alternative toestrap that will fit the Prime Carbons? I tried straps from Burton Cartels but they wouldn’t fit. While I like the bindings, I’m not a fan of the Air-straps, which I find difficult to do up with gloves, and awkward to step in to (though perhaps that’s in part because my boot size is between M and L). Mike replied to the topic Fitwell Sizing Help? in the forum Boots 2 years ago I wear US 11. I bought and tried on Mondo size 295 (Backcountry, not Freeride) and couldn’t even get my feet in the boots. After making some comparisons with my normal boots (DriverX), it seems the Fitwells are fairly narrow at or toward the heel. I ended up returning them as sizing up to 300 would – I think – have meant the boots ended up being…[Read more] Mike replied to the topic New and confused! in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 2 years, 1 month ago FWIW: I’m the same height (5’11”), similar weight (~155) and ride a 162cm Jones (mostly in interior BC). I’d second the point about gear adding to your weight. Might be worth doing a back-of-the-envelope calculation just to see how much it can be. Mike replied to the topic Revelstoke Area Partners in the forum Split Partners Wanted 2 years, 1 month ago Not sure if anyone on this thread is still in Revy, but I will be there at various points during the 2017/2018 season, starting in early/mid December. Feel free to PM me.
