Appreciate that might not be possible but I’d rather not buy two sets of crampons if I can avoid it. Any thoughts or recommendations? Mike replied to the topic Fitwell Backcountry In Canada and Sizing information in the forum Boots 9 months, 1 week ago Hey Dan, Higher Ground Sports in Golden has them. Give them a call on (250) 344-7980. : ) Hopefully they have your size! Mike replied to the topic Fitwell Backcountry In Canada and Sizing information in the forum Boots 9 months, 2 weeks ago Hi Dan, I don’t know anywhere in BC you can buy them. I’d recommend calling Splitboard HQ in Calgary – I’ve found them to be very helpful on splitboarding questions. Alternatively Escape Route in Whistler? They are at least backcountry-focused though I don’t have much experience with them. I tried on a pair of Fitwell Backcountry that I bought…[Read more] Mike started the topic Help improve the avalanche bulletin! in the forum Avy Discussion Forum 9 months, 3 weeks ago Link to survey (here is the URL: http://avbullvis.avalancheresearch.ca/) “The Avalanche Research Program at Simon Fraser University, Avalanche Canada and several U.S. Avalanche Centers are conducting an online survey to examine how backcountry recreationists—skiers, mountain snowmobilers, snowshoers and ice climbers—use public avalanche saf…[Read more] Mike‘s profile was updated 9 months, 3 weeks ago Mike replied to the topic Amplid Milligram in the forum Splitboards 10 months ago Interesting – haven’t weighed my board but have had similar issues with both the Jones Carbon Excavator Shovel and Karakoram Prime X Carbon bindings being heavier than advertised (392 vs 377g for shovel, 656 vs 580 for bindings – though in fairness that was with the normal toe strap and not the airstrap). Curious as to how much variation there is…[Read more] Mike replied to the topic FS: Karakoram Prime X Carbon 2015/2016 Size Medium in the forum Splitboard Swap 10 months, 3 weeks ago Bindings are sold. Mike started the topic FS: Karakoram Prime X Carbon 2015/2016 Size Medium in the forum Splitboard Swap 11 months ago Some scratches to the paintwork, as you’d expect. Otherwise in good condition – have seen ~35 days use. Lightest shovel (245g) at the moment appears to be the ATK Carbon Shovel but the shaft is not detachable from the blade. Not sure how well a carbon blade would hold up in avalanche debris. The Jones Excavator Carbon is heavier (377g) but has a detachable shaft. Lightest probe I could…[Read more] Mike replied to the topic Jones Solution / Flagship – Very different ride in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 1 year ago Indeed. If you’re over in BC, let me know. Mike replied to the topic Pants and hardshell in the forum The Gear Room 1 year ago Tried to reply earlier but had problems logging in (seems others have also had issues). To answer your question: it’s a matter of personal preference. I like bibs (Burton AK) rather than pants. For a hardshell jacket, I have a lightweight trail running jacket for the uptrack and a lightweight, 3L Goretex shell for the descent though I often don’t…[Read more] Mike replied to the topic Jones Solution / Flagship – Very different ride in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 1 year ago Whereabouts are you based? I have a Carbon Flagship 164, either 2015 or 2016 model. Might be able to let you take it on a test ride. I also have a Carbon Solution (162W, 2015 or 2016) but I find it hard to make a direct comparison because 1) the boards have different width/specs, 2) I ride different bindings on each and 3) I’m using different…[Read more] Mike replied to the topic Golden and Revelstoke Feb 2019 in the forum Split Partners Wanted 2 years ago I should be in Revelstoke for at least part of February. I’ll be working while there which will limit trips to weekends but definitely interested in finding people to go out with! I’ll message you both. Mike replied to the topic 32 Jones MTB in the forum Boots 2 years, 10 months ago “the original footbed is garbage” I suspect this is true of most/many boots. The footbed on the Burton DriverX isn’t good, either – I swapped mine out for Sidas footbeds. Mike replied to the topic Backpack: Mammut Nirvana vs Osprey Kamber in the forum The Gear Room 2 years, 10 months ago I’ve been using a Mammut Nirvana Pro 35L for the last three seasons. I find the back panel access pretty useful but it adds weight, which is the tradeoff. Mike replied to the topic First splitboard advice in the forum Splitboards 2 years, 11 months ago I’ll second what bcall8 said on the board. I have a Carbon Solution 162W and it’s not a board I enjoy riding in tight trees (though I do like it overall). Mike replied to the topic Wide splitboard skins in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 3 years ago I have a Carbon Solution 162W (30.3 / 26.3 / 30.2) and the G3 Alpinist skins (technically the white label version for Backcountry.com) fit fine. I’d be surprised if you had an issue with the skin width. That said, I’d just go with permnation’s link – hard to beat that price and Jones skins are made by Pomoca anyway. Mike replied to the topic Splitboard Backpack Recommendations in the forum The Gear Room 3 years ago I’ve had a Mammut Nirvana Pro for four seasons now and I’m happy with it. Came recommended by ski patrol here. Comfortable, lots of features. Unfortunately it seems like it’s expensive in the US. I managed to pick one up while in Europe for about $140. Load More
