Still a lot of snow in the Tetons if anyone feels like riding still. Was up there last weekend riding blower pow for thousands of vertical feet, and skiable snow down to 7300′ on sheltered north facing. I posted a report in the Trip Reports forum.

  • Andy and I met at my house in Salt Lake City at 4 pm on May 9. If was raining hard as we were leaving. With freezing levels already down to 8000 feet, it was clear there was going to be pow to ride in the Wasatch if we stuck around. I think we were both tempted to bail at multiple points. But neither of us wanted to be that guy, so we stuck…[Read more]

Sweet pics Doug. I scoped that Split Mountain area a few years ago and thought there could be some sweet sandstone scrambling up there.

In riding news, there is good corn on the West Face Of Timpanogos. We rode the North Battle Creek route from the summit on Saturday. Skiable snow down to 8k’, with the lowest patches maybe just below 7k.…[Read more]

Rode Bonkers this morning. Much better than expected, with fast, smooth dense pow down to the apron. Hint of heat crust at the bottom. About 15 minutes of walking in Broads to start. Wind was blasting a huge plume off the top of the Twins so we bailed on the summit. Bonkers was strangely quiet wind-wise, with only some wind effect in the…[Read more]

I was wondering Dan! I rode the south face of Chipman (thankfully before these guys got there http://slcsherpa.blogspot.com/) and it was a variable mess that was much better on the board than it was on my buddy’s skimo setup. We had thought about doing the line from White Pine and then climbing out and skiing Maybird to the road but I figured…[Read more]

I have wondered how approaching up the canyon you guys used would be! Skinning out through deep gullies is never good. There is some sweet terrain up in there. Way to explore.

That is some real exploring there. I had seen that that range had been doing pretty well for snow this year. Looks like there was still a lot of walking, though.

Went to a new area in the central Wasatch on Saturday. The original objective was not to be due to lowering cloud bases, but we still managed to find cool lines. The conditions were actually quite good with a mix of soft faceted snow, beautiful pseudo-corn, and windboards. I was surprised though that shady areas as low as 7500 feet retained…[Read more]
