I totally agree on the toeside feel difference to stiff softboots. In my opinion used (50+ days) malamutes+ some quite basic Ride bindings I have, offer a noticeably stiffer toeside feel early when leaning. And at the same time they are much softer on the heelside. I prefer the feel of TLT6 on toeside, it’s “snappier” and jumping (just for…[Read more]

  • 1) Roomier toebox, as mentioned, the last does not have to be as tight as with skis.
    2) Adjustable stiffnes would be good as people prefer different feel. Maybe an evolution of the TLT6 idea of different tongues. Burton bindings also used to have (ca. 2005) detachable insert on highbacks to alter the response,
    3) I agree on the necessity of stiff…[Read more]

  • Which model Expeditions do you have? Way old blue upper shiny lower ones, quite new full gray coated ones or the newest black ones? They grey coated ones were poop, crappy camlocks. I´ve had to use a grey middle section since the original mid section bent after about 6 years of use, when I loaned them to a friend.. Used them as a selfie stick and…[Read more]

Scary, eh..? I changed to a HB setup last season, so I´m rocking Camp XLC-390´s nowadays. If I would´ve stayed with the Mutes, I´d have looked at crampons with a higher heel loop.

Loving the HB (TLT-6) setup, stiffness is about the same as Mute+Burner. I´d say stiffer on heelside and softer on toeside. Another big bonus was that the XLC+…[Read more]

Jason4, Ofcourse I don´t mean it as a deal breaker, but it´s something to know. It seems this can be avoided by choosing different toepieces, which is my main message. Sparks have been “on the fly” since at least when Blaze and Burner were initially brought to market in 2009 or 2010. It´s the original Voile system which require taking of the pi…[Read more]

  • Why would they not work with heelpieces..?

  • Has there been broken Superlite toepieces with the Phantom adapter? Or is this is Spark adapter issue?

The problem I have with Superlites+TLT6+dynafit crampons is that you can´t slip the crampons on without detaching the boot. I asked about it from Dynafit HQ (Europe) and got quite an arrogant response “it´s very difficult to make it work, t…[Read more]

  • The 32 walk mode articulates quite high and the whole system was initially designed for ladies boots to adjust for thicker calves. Might give something though, I´ll have to try them in the shop just out of interest. I´m though fully converted to HB and not coming back before some really major development happens.

TLT6 inner boot has a low d…[Read more]

Phantoms are good. the only downside in the wholes system is the Dynafit Superlight toes not accepting crampons on the fly. You have to detach boots to put crampons in.

  • I have BD Contact Straps and I cannot recommend them. They were ok on my ca 2006 malamutes (26), but very bad on 2011 malamutes and I mean VERY bad, they never stayed on. On the old mutes I was able to climb easy vertical ice (top rope) with them, but on the newer ones they dropped off while walking on snow slopes. Ofcourse the issue is partly…[Read more]

So anyone else is not experiencing the problem desctibed above? Because I got an answer from Dynafit that it’s not possible to slide the crampon in with the boot attached on the superlights..? Kinda suspicious to me, because this is a question of like 2mm of clearance. I think I’ll just file a little off from everywhere.

    Dynafit…[Read more]

It´s setup alright, there´s really nothing to actually setup as the phantom adapter is preinstalled and it doesn´t even affect the fit. The boot toecap bottoms on the red metal rod of the locking mechanism. nothing is restricting or binding the crampon slot. Pulling up the latch doesn´t affect the geometry on my bin…[Read more]
