bcall8 replied to the topic Cutting skins for boards with magne-traction in the forum Splitboards 5 years, 3 months ago

I bought a lib tech this year with some of the new G3 high traction skins. The lib has a straight inner edge and a very pronounced magnetraction on the outer riding edge. I used the G3 skin cutting tool and followed the wobbly edge. I have also had other boards that had magnetraction which were wider than the skins that I had so there was a little…[Read more]

From the jones website under the solution splitboard description. “Inner and outer edge mellow Magne-Traction locks in your edges while skinning or shredding”……. I think you are good

I may be mistaken on my previous comment. I thought that jones did an inner and outer magnetractionbut I didn’t see it on their website. The shop should know or an email to jones. I hope it’s on purpose otherwise that’s bad on them.

That center line is not suppose to be straight. They call it inner magnetraction. It’s suppose to give you better side hill grip when climbing up.

As for a quiver killer I’m a big fan of the jones solution. It really can handle all types of terrain. Maybe not the coolest answer as they seem to have become pretty common but I think it is a good dependable option. I know there were some quality issues a couple of years ago. Mine from last year has been great. For you you would have to go with…[Read more]

I lived in the Buenos Aires province south of the city in the sticks and on the Atlantic coast. Spent most of my time near Mar Del Plata. No mountains, no snow.

Nice… I spent a couple of years in Argentina… That’s a tough call. For the tight couloirs I think the 59 would be a bit much for your size. I think you would love it on the open volcanos. I would probably go with the 54 in the landlord or go with a different board in the 156-57 range. The nose on the landlord will be longer than on your other…[Read more]

bcall8 replied to the topic Landlord advice? in the forum Splitboards 5 years, 3 months ago

I think they ride pretty true to size. As far as float I would say that my 63 landlord wasn’t any better than my 161.5 t. Rice. Burton boards in general seem to be a little on the narrow side. The nose on the landlord has rocker and floats on top well, but the board didn’t float as well as I was hoping it would. It was bad though. I think a little…[Read more]

What boards do you currently ride right now?

bcall8 replied to the topic Landlord advice? in the forum Splitboards 5 years, 3 months ago

I had a landlord 163 in my quiver for 2 years. My initial answer is no, it does not ride bigger than it is. But I want to be sure I understand your question. Could you be more specific on what you mean by that statement.

bcall8 replied to the topic T-Rice Split Hp in the forum Splitboards 5 years, 3 months ago

What size boot are you? I don’t think they make the aviator in a wide. How stiff do you want this board to be? How important is riding switch? Do you want an offset stance or more centered?

I haven’t been on an aviator so my input would be based on what I have read, what jones snowboards says about their models and how I would think the boards…[Read more]

I use to have the 161.5 and I just bought the 164.5 for this season. It’s a fun board that rides well. It will be awesome for short hikes off the resort. I’m not sure it will be what you want on hard snow days due to the rocker profile. I have owned many lib tech and gnu boards over the years and I really love them for some things. They are super…[Read more]

bcall8 replied to the topic Need Beta- Southern Utah in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 5 years, 3 months ago

Myself and @THESYSTEMSPLIT hit up Southern Utah from time to time. Where are you coming from? Any ideas on a specific area that you were hoping to explore? In a big snow year (or with good timing) there may be more options but the 2 obvious zones are the Brian Head area and the Tushars 35 minutes north of Brian Head up Beaver Canyon. I personally…[Read more]

Summersgone- I find it interesting that you like your prospector better for climbing. Doesn’t it have a pretty pronounced rocker under foot? I thought that the never summer boards were pretty similar in profile to lib tech. I don’t doubt your assessment but it is different from what I would have thought.

That is a pretty good list of demands…. The Rossi is a board that has had my interest as well. It is suppose to have a softer tail than nose which I would think would help with slower speed turning. But my overall impression is that the board is built for straight out speed (just my observation from reading about it). I have a Jones solution…[Read more]

bcall8 replied to the topic Voile Splitboard and Skin Quality and Questions in the forum Splitboard Talk Forum 5 years, 4 months ago

Have you considered a skunk ape split? Since you are already riding a skunk ape solid….. I have not ridden the voile boards but have played with them in some shops. They seem like good quality boards. They were a little stiffer than what I was expecting but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I have some experience on a burton landlord which…[Read more]

I’m not sure if the Karakoram high back will fit… But maybe some tinker time in the garage is in order for a DIY solution.
